Lets hope the Adelaide Oval pitch is like last years that helped our bowlers more than usual.
If we have repetition of the Glenelg Oval Brighton ROAD pitch , gunna be harder to get outrights

Outright is a must against WA who are favorites to be wooden spooners in 2013/2014

Re: Ashes 3rd Test Perth Discussion

The Psychic Blues:

England will lose their first wicket in the 70's. Most likely 73.
The wicket will be Cook, caught in slips for 34.
This will trigger a collapse of 3 further wickets before England reach 100.
England will make 238.

This will happen.
I am sort of psychic.

Re: Ashes 4th test Boxing Day - Melbourne Discussion

No wonder Watto has so many back and hammy problems, have a look at how quick he stops when he gets Carberrys wicket, no follow through at all

This is why WHUFC , I consider to be one of the finest SAFOOTY cricket Posters
This poster often looks forward and puts his reputation on the line with some of his posts
I read this post earlier today
And bingo the cricketing maestro gets it right

WHUFC quite possibilty the smartest cricket judge on Safooty after myself

Re: Test Squad for South African Tour - predictions & discus

Here are some players averaging more than Marsh in the shield this season

North, Pomersbach, Ferguson, Voges, Carters, Hughes, Lynn, Forrest, Whiteman, Cooper, Burns, White, Hartley, Neville, Quiney, Head, Cowan, Dunk

Interesting that one of those in that list is a guy who despite being possibly the best pure keeper in the country, isn't considered to be good enough with the bat to be a chance of the keepers spot in the Test side (albeit Haddin has it stitched up for the time being). All whilst racking up better numbers than a bloke who just fails year after year to translate the hype into runs against the red ball.

I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind the Marsh selection. In the past when players were dropped they had to go back to first class cricket and make a mountain of runs to even get spoken of again. Seems that no longer applies.

You have rightly been telling us for years that Marsh is not up to it at Test level
You have convinced enough of us over the years, but not the selectors mate

Yes he is batting well currently in the ODIs v England
The reason why he succeeds in ODIs is the friendly bowlers he faces from about the 15-20 over mark
He faces guys like Bopara , Root, Tredwell
Facing those yummy bowlers is not a recommendation
Marsh is a lovely player of friendly bowlers
He faces them with no slips most of the time , and picks them off scoring easy runs via singles

Imagine Marsh batting 3 again in South Africa
3 -4 slips,1-2 gullys and facing Steyn Philander and Morkel
Those guys wont give him too many cheap runs , and on what I've seen all 3 will dismiss him for too many low scores

Re: Test Squad for South African Tour - predictions & discus

Everyone can say what they like about guys like:
DOOLAN
BAILEY
S MARSH
Truth of the matter is they are being picked because there is no one else
The depth of class batsman at present is perhaps the worst I've ever seen

This is the decade of batsmen who have been selected

2010
SMITH

2011
KHAWAJA
MARSH
WARNER
COWAN

2012
HENRIQUES
MAXWELL
BAILEY
QUINEY

None of them have consistently excelled as YET
Warner and Smith have nailed their spots at present, but for how long ?
Would any of them have made the teams in Steve Waugh's reign ?

Just b4 this crop in 2008/2009 was
ROGERS
WHITE
MCDONALD
HUGHES
NORTH

So Australia is having recent recurring problems regenerating Test standard batsmen
That's why so many guys like Bailey and Marsh are getting selected
Will any of the above players from 2008-2013 end up with a Test average of 40 +

Would you pick this 22 year old batsman ?
11 matches
22 innings
844 runs
38.36 average

Has made 4 tons , including one in a SS final facing Ryan Harris
The 38.46 may not impress enough people
But 4 tons in 22 dogs should

Re: Test Squad for South African Tour - predictions & discus

Reckon Dolan at 3 and Watson at 6 is a lock for the first test though

Sounds good to me!

Good thinking
Lets replace the current number 3 who has scored 2 centuries in his last 6 Tests
The same person who averages about 42 batting at 3 in his career, and then backs up to be a handy 5th bowler
And replace him at 3 with a rookie against arguably the most feared pace attack in the universe
Yeah lets bat the current number 3 down the order where he averages about 30 odd
Just beat England 5-0 , yeah good thinking lets tamper with the batting line up

Come on Benny, WHUFC , you blokes are 2 smart to actually believe Doolan at this point of time should bat 6 in front of Watson

Hope Alex Doolan makes lotsa runs IF he is selected
But I doubt he is capable enough

Re: Test Squad for South African Tour - predictions & discus

Bandwagonner, you said only 4 down ...
4 down at Stumps.
Amla and AB were playing for rain.
60 runs in a session!
Would think AB and Faf need to both bat to tea to save this one

they werent playing for rain

they just know how to be patient

big chance this will still be a draw

For those of you who would like an insight into the persona Of MT79
He is a natural talent as a cricketer , an opinion based on a several net sessions
Does have a slight problem reading and playing my Malsra , but plenty of ticks as a genuine talent
But for whatever reason , he does not play cricket , quite possibly a talent wasted

Personality wise , a well natured , polite person , and a family friend
In all the years I've known MT79, we have never argued or fueded an any matter
He is just a happy go lucky person, if we had a world of MT79s , there would be no wars , and it would be a very very happy world

For those reading this post I can only add he does not smoke dope , sniff cocaine , or inject himself with heroine
Having cleared that up, his prediction of a draw being a big chance is based on a lack of cricketing knowlege

Re: Test Squad for South African Tour - predictions & discus

Tea 7/201
106 overs
Duminy 22*[64]
Philander 16*[13]

Harris 2/24 [18]
Johnson 2/72 [27]
Pattinson 2/44[20]
Total 6/140 [65]

Lyon 0/10[19]
Watson 0/6 [7]
Smith 1/31[11]
Clarke 0/5 [4]
Total 1/52[41]

You don't have to be einSteyn to work out the formula after tea
Averages BEFORE this match

23.22 Harris
26.43 Pattinson
27.65 Johnson
31.84 Watson
32.43 Lyon
36.94 Clarke
47.70 Smith
54.50 Warner

I've not played Test Cricket
But I am a reasonably successful gambler who bases his assumptions on probability
In the racing game you MOSTLY back the horses with the most successful form lines that suggest they can win
Cricket is kind of the same
From here on the Aussies will freshen up
There is no tomorrow
You simply bowl the best bowlers for as long as possible or for most of the available overs

I would bowl
PLAN A
Harris /Johnson/Pattinson immediately after tea
Finish them off, if they cant
PLAN B
Lyon
PLAN C
Bring back the strikers

Smith, Clarke must only bowl a max of 2 overs each

Re: Sheffield Shield Scores around Oz

I would think Arthur Kippax was The Dons Captain when they played for NSW [Bradman may have captained if Kippax was unavailable ?]
The Dons last dig for NSW was 128
He came to SA for the 1935/1936 season
He was given the SA captaincy
On debut the Don made 117 , hence his last dig for NSW and first for SA were tons
The irony was that the 117 was against NSW as well

1. 1935/1936
SA won the SS in the Dons first season and as Captain
I would say that would be the first SS that Don won as captain

2 1938/1939
Next SS win as captain was in 38/39
Once again in the first game the Don made a ton , this time in both innings 107 +113

WW2 took its turn
SA did not win the SS again until 1953 ,The Don had retired a few years earlier

So I reckon he captained at least 2 SS winning teams for SA
And perhaps none for NSW
But will stand corrected if wrongggg
