Re: Crows Disgrace

Just a few points:

For those annoyed people from outside SA will be we wearing a replica state guernsey, no one seems to give a crap when Phil Hughes fronts for South Australia and represents our state at the highest level. Wears the coveted baggy red etc. Graham Cornes, a Victorian, wore the SA guernsey 21 times and captained the team. Precedents all over the place here.

The guernsey is commemorative in nature. Celebrating SA's footy heritage. They'll still run out as the Adelaide Crows, a team you may or may not support. No one is claiming to represent South Australia. Simply honouring the footy heritage.

And all this banging on about tainting history, yada yada yada. The state guernsey has been dead at the highest level for more than a decade.
Towards the end, the state guernsey lost its lustre. Players were preferring to play for their club over their state and risking their careers. At least, in this one-off occasion, the blokes running out there in that SA replica guernsey will want to be there. They'll want to be wearing it. They may not be all South Australians. But heck, it sure has thrust South Australian football back into the spotlight. The revamped Adelaide Oval will be packed to the brim. History is great, but this is a new era, like it or not.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Bombay Bicycle Club.

400gm chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce ($18 + $3 for sauce).

10-15 mins from order to table.

Very good value for the size of the bird, as well as getting a very generous serving of creamy mushroom sauce in a jug, instead of gravy with a couple of token mushrooms you can get elsewhere. Chips were the under the schnitty which is a bit of a no-no but the seasoning on them was amazing and worth ordering a bowl on their own for.

Love the place.

Re: Digital AFL access

If you are a telstra mobile customer they are giving you free access to all AFL games vision on your mobile.

Yeah I signed up for this. Is it data free?

Me, being the opposite of a tech guru, is there anyway that I can link this live stream from my phone to the TV? Is that what this chromecast does?? Is there anything else that I need?
Yes there is. You need a Mhl to hdmi converter and a separate power supply for it. Its only a 5v thing I think. You can get a converter on ebay for $15 or something like that. Just need to make sure its compatable with your phone.

Not sure how to setup with chromecast though.

Re: Sheffield Shield Season 2015/2016

Could someone help me out with the following

1/ Who are the selectors

2/ Did anyone hear an explanation from anyone important (i.e. Selectors or captain) before, during or after the match as to why they went into the game without a specialist spinner?

3/ Why would they play an all out pace attack and then bat 1st after winning the toss when theoretically the most help in the pitch for the pace bowlers would have been early on day 1?
Only logical explanation i can see is that after seeing that Vic had named 2 specialist spinners, they didnt want them to have last use of a day 5 pitch.
Which then lends more weight to the argument that it was poor selection as its risky business to put all your eggs in the one basket as they did when its only 50/50 you're gonna win the toss and also not knowing the make up of the oppositions team.

We'll never know now whether selecting a specialist spinner would have made a difference or not but i agree with Stampy, the batting simply didnt stand up to be counted in either innings with significant collapses in both innings after very solid starts.

Lots of positive signs for years to come and lets hope they dont do away with the Shield Final as i think it was a fantastic game and the Best side did win!
Also worth remembering that if the Shield was won by the TOP finishing team this season it would NOT have been the Redbacks as quite simply the game in Alice would NOT have ended in a draw under those circumstances and SA would have finished 2nd.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

So have we heard how the owls went? See their senior colts gave the roosters a touch up

Apparently the boys had to sing the club song in the shower. They had to make way for the women's match. Disgraceful. Ran out of food and drink early as well. Round one was always going to be a feeling out process though.
So you were there ?? ??? Round One for a new club in the league and U are happy to sit back and throw stones?? U can't back pedal and say I guess round 1 was a learning curve. Of course it's a MASSSIVE learning curve for us. But we learnt a lot of things today and I'm sure if u actually speak to any of ur old team mates they will tell u about he actual football game. Any issues please let me know as I'm very proud of my clubs efforts on and off the field. Well done to angle vale and we look forward to improving on and off the field this season and the many more seasons to come.

Wow, i said the having to sing the song in the shower was disgraceful. You think that thats ok? being told you have to hurry up and can't sit around the changrooms after a match so someone else can use the rooms? No problem with running out of food that was the part i meant i was feeling out process. Good work on the 2 goals

Re: EPL Season 2015/2016

I stayed up until 12.30 to watch the Arsenal match with the boys at the Arkabar. Entertaining 2-2 draw. I wasn't happy that Arsenal tried to shut up shop by using their last sub on Coquelin around the 78th. The game didn't open up as much as i thought it would, expected City to go all out for a win towards the end of the match. Absolutely spewing at the end Ground had the ball just inside City half and had Walcott one metre onside and he decides to fall over instead of playing him the ball. Would have been a one on one with Hart to win the match. No City player was catching him. Would have preferred Arsenal to go for the win instead of playing out the draw.

Re: Should Australia Day date be changed?

moving the date is acknowledging what, exactly? because this country constantly feels the need to apologise for things done generations and generations ago?.

There will always be aspects of any countries' history that no-one is proud of but people need to accept that that's the way it happened and ensure such atrocities don't happen again in the future. FFS people, this was 230 years ago. In 2017,whilst it's still far from perfect, it's definitely not like it was.

Of course we're all sorry that thousands of indigenous people were killed unnecessarily -but it happened and changing the date isn't going to change this, so why do it. That's just my logic, which as we all know sometimes isn't logical..

Next we'll be changing the date of rememberence day or Anzac Day because it offends our German and Japanese population  Sounds stupid doesn't it, but where does it end?
Moving the date isn't about acknowledging anything - it's about allowing EVERYONE to feel comfortable to enjoy and celebrate the land we live in, everything great about it, it's culture and diversity.

Atrocities STARTED 230 yrs ago as you say.. Stolen Generation, inability to vote or be accepted as part of mainstream Australia. Help fight for the country in wars but come home and still be treated as less than equal. Slavery and Unfair work payments - paid small amounts even rations. Still not recognised in the Australian Constitution.. Loss of language, stories, culture etc. etc. etc.

What Australia Day represents to many, is not only events that took place 230 years ago, but the chain of events an impacts on lives since that day. That was the day that the whole culture of A&TSI people were changed forever.

Does that make sense?

Re: AFLW - Womens AFL

While the skills were perhaps below what I expected across the board ( the top end certainly showed some decent touch in places ) the intent was far more intense than I thought it would be. You can't question the endeavor of the girls, really enjoyed the competitive aspect of the patches of games I saw.

For those knocking it, if you can't see how happy it makes the girls playing it, how proud it made their families and friends and the fact some 35,000 or more people went to the games over the weekend then you're lacking a heart I reckon.

It will never be as good as the mens game we all know that but that's not the reason it's upon us. If you don't like it put the chip packet aside and hit another button on the remote.

Re: Australia Domestic Season 2017/18

Shit concept how this comp is run. Literally no interest in it at all and I'm glad as our available squad looks dog shit.

Bring on the shield.
Our squad looks very good, even with 3 internationals out.

Weatherald exciting player
Carey very exciting player
Ross & Lehmann ready to take next step
Ferguson & Cooper the experience
Mennie, Sayers, Worrall a bloody good first class pace attack

Lack a proven spinner unfortunately. Hopefully Cormack/Andrews step up.

Can't believe the negativity about cricket in general around here. Redbacks last few years have been our best for two decades. Now getting players in Aussie team. Live streaming makes domestic cricket more accessible than ever before. More young local products getting chances at Shield level.

People bag the Aussie team too. Used to be soooo boring with us winning everything and all other nations basically a joke. Now it's a genuine contest, other nations have got serious, bloody hard to get away wins against most teams. 10x more interesting.

People are just like Port fans - only really liked it when they were perennial front runners.
