Re: APPS Country Football

This from the SAAFL today:
Approved Player Points System
The South Australian Community Football League recently conducted an extensive review of the current permutations of the APPS. A vote at the recent SACFL AGM saw a motion for all recommendations defeated. That being the case, the Rules and Regulation regarding the APPS for 2014 will remain consistent with season 2013. Any recommendations to the SACFL will be considered for season 2015 though must be lodged via the SAAFL prior to the 30th of April 2014.

Re: Geelong 2013

We will be top 4.

Who will they replace?
the only side i could see coming out of the 4 could be freo... or possibly the swans (hope not)... Hawks and Cats aren't going anywhere imho.

Debatable re. Geelong. They lose Hawkins and they are in a bit of strife imo.

Awesome backline and one of the best midfield groups in the comp though which will still see them comfortably in the 8.

One lesson learned re. the cats is you can never write them off.
I think the Hawks might be in trouble if they lose Buddy......oh hang on

Re: What did each era bring to the game

at least you tried to start a constructive thread whufc . seriously what is with people on this site sometimes?

i think the 2000s brought an increase in fielding professionalism in general. almost everyone can field like johnty rhodes nowadays. can remember the west indies and other teams just not caring at all about fielding. India were also particularly bad.

i think the in-out field in test matches is also something that has come in recently, especially a deep point going out early, and as you have mentioned, two back behind square. Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards would more than hold their own with modern day fielders

Re: SAAFL division 5 2014

Twice sides have been dropped into our (North Haven) division and twice they have made a GF and we have finished third but i think this time it will be different by the sounds of things.

Well for starters I don't fancy our chances of finishing top 3 but i would hate to finish 9th and them 8th

Being relegated is a moot point. By all reports Glenunga were building a very good side that would have likely finished above ninth anyway. D5 just eliminated a serious contender.

Do you think people at Glenunga might be a bit peeved that they were gearing up for a run at the premiership, and now they're gonna be fighting to make finals in Div 4.
No, they would have declined the offer

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/90/Sam_and_Ralph_clock.png/220px-Sam_and_Ralph_clock.png

Wasn't the original Wile.E.Coyote? Never known him as a wolf Mr B
Ralph E. Wolf!
Ralph E. Wolf and Sam Sheepdog (E. like Ethelbert) are characters in a series of animated cartoons in the Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies series of cartoons. The characters were created by Chuck Jones, but here directed by Isadore "Friz" Freleng (as I. Freleng). This short was written by Melvin Millar and features music by Carl W. Stalling.[1]
Ralph Wolf (named after a Warner Bros. employee) has virtually the same character design as another Chuck Jones character, Wile E. Coyote —brown fur, wiry body, and huge ears, but with a red nose in place of the Coyote's black one; (usually) white eyes instead of Wile E.'s yellow; and, occasionally, a fang protruding from his mouth. He also shares the Coyote's appetite, and persistent use of Acme Corporation products, but he covets sheep instead of road runners and, when he speaks, doesn't have the upper-class accent or the egotistical bearing of the Coyote. Another crucial difference is that of personality: Ralph does not have the fanatical drive of the Coyote in pursuing his prey, preferring to abandon his chase at the end of the working day.

Re: AFL Round 2 Discussion ( and Live Scores )

2013 wasn't a fluke- but calm your farm on top 4. We have Fremantle, Hawthorn, West Coast and Geelong, who in my opinion are still 3-5 goal better sides than us. After what I have seen so far this season, we should be aiming for 5th-6th. Top 4 is still a season or 2 away I reckon.
We're a long way off beating Port at Adelaide Ocal. Far too many injuries to be saying we're a 5 goal better side than the Power at the moment. only a month off

Re: Flash Poll - Which grade do you think Kilburn should be

Div 3 - They made their bed, let them lie in it.

Glenunga a few years ago were losing by 40 goals in both divs (with some players having to play two games, just to ensure both teams played), they dropped divs and were relegated regularly and rebuilt. Teams shouldn't be gifted a way around a few years of pain just to allow them to rebuild quicker
Bit rich coming from a team who has been gifted promotion?
Should it be more about having competitive games in each division rather than punishing a club because they are struggling?

Re: Clubs in strife

This is what I have learnt:
Posters from clubs that have big junior numbers say the other clubs need to invest in their juniors, 99% of same posters would have had nothing to do with developing their junior program just played there.
Clubs with big junior programs get better junior players, coaches and support because they are, unsurprisingly, more successful.
Clubs with small junior programs don't like their talented kids being poached by clubs with big junior programs
Bombers4eva thinks noone should get paid for playing
Salisbury are the only club in Australia that don't pay players, yet hand out cash at awards.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014

Delegates need to raise this loop hole at a meeting and close it. Very good exploitation by Rosewater in this case.

I've been working on a bigger loophole.

If Scott Thompson comes to the SAAFL next year he's worth 5 points whoever recruits him as a returning AFL player.

Let's say for the sake of the argument he goes to Houghton and plays Div 7.

in 2015 he would be worth 4 points for Houghton as you lose a point a year.

However, if Tea Tree Gully were to then try and recruit him from Houghton, he's only a 2 point player as a Div4-7 SAAFL player.

This seems to be a bit of a problematic anomaly
Good luck to Houghton on such a coup.
If a club wants to "exploit" this by letting him play a year at another club then good luck to them, he could get injured, he could get poached by big $ in the bush, anything could happen.
Or he could go to North Haven and be 0 points...

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014
 Within the SAAFL they are worth 0 points

This is where I think the amatuer league need to look at changing some of the rules regarding points. At present if you are moving within the amatuer league and have played a grade football at a previous AMATUER league club, then you are worth 2 or 3 points. But if you have played majority b grade at your previous amatuer league club in your final year there than you are worth zero.
This is where it is a silly to me. I think most people will agree that the higher the division the better the standard, therefore the majority of players playing b grade at div 1 or div 2 would more than likely easily slot into a lower divisions a grade. But they are worth zero points with the current system. But if a player coming from say div 6 a grade team wants to try his luck at div 1 or 2 football, he is worth 3 points. Seems a bit backwards to me. This is exactly what has happened at Rosewater this year.
Spot. Freaking. On.

Well done Rosewater, they've seen an opportunity, exploited it and are reaping the benefits.

Rosewater had 3 players that have come from Walkerville play on the weekend..
I wouldn't exactly call that exploiting the system?? Well I guess you would need to accurately define your understanding of the work exploit. IMO 1 player is exploiting the system as they have got a net advantage from it, but it's semantics.

I dont have a problem with anything Rosewater have done, just the opposite in fact. I think they're a smart, extremely well run football club full of good people whom I would like to think we would be looking to emulate one day.

EDIT: and they can do all that without the smarmy arrogant uppity culture of previously successful D6 clubs.
maybe we need to be successful before we get smarmy arrogant and uppity
