Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Heard on grapevine gun recruit scott galbraith may be heading back to Kilburn from virginia. Realising money is not everything and missing the chics more than he thought he would.
Wouldn't surprise me. Especially after he caught wind that he would have to tackle the opposition this year and get his own ball. 2 attrtibutes that evade Galbraith.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

Tough thing about trying to buy loyalty but forgetting to actually pay up.

You don't tend to get it.
Don't let the truth get in the way of a good yarn...

A Grade mass walkout. Of course that's what it is.

Have bought premiership sides (or died trying) the last 5 years and in that time have been at best ambivalent to not fielding a C Grade, a halfway competitive B Grade or juniors.

Chickens are well and truly coming home to roost

Kilburn has never fielded a competitive B grade side, always struggled to fill a C grade and have always paid their A grade side, this has seen them have success and big failures. I was there only 13 years ago when they won the div 1 flag and finished third the following year. Had great numbers the year after until Delaney left and hings went pear shaped from there. People in the club have worked so hard to attempt to get them back to where they want to be, I am very close to Dale and I guarantee is as president he is at that club for as long as he as at work to try and get things back on track. Maybe paying players isn't the answer but this is how they and many others made it to the top. Maybe it's caused the downfall or the guys coming through these days just don't show the loyalty that they used to. The thing about Kilburn is they are a proud club and hey will do whatever they have to to field two sides each Saturday. Last year guys of 40+ age put their hands up to play B grade and the same guys would do it again. I hope they get through and stat to get some numbers on the track.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Just a thought but maybe Hamley could think about putting some time and money into a junior program instead of self destructing in 1-2 years. Who runs that show?

How are clubs suppose to put time and money trying to promote and build juniors if there aren't any?
Kids are too interested in playing ps3, smoking weed and fingering girls which means footy or sport in general gets put on the back burner.
I know that we promote juniors to play senior footy wherever possible but the talent pool is so shallow that some of the junior coming through just aren't up to senior standard.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

one week out a div 4 club can still slot into the kilburn space

You're kidding, right? :-T

Tell me who'd go up?

I think someone from Golden Grove mentioned they'd like to - but why swap short odds for a flag to play in a flag to finishing in the middle of the pack.

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

Quick game of devils advocate if Kilburn had of gone down to C1 but still had 8 or 9 A grade players available and made a complete mess of a C grade side would everybody be saying the league did the wrong thing and they should have stayed in D3. Sometimes you have to let situations play out to be able to find the correct solution.

Re: Clubs in strife

With all due respect it's hardly surprising that vague "underlying issues" are not sinking in when no one will particularise what they are.
I'm sick of trying to explain to people what they are, too many people with nothing to do with the club ALL KNOW BETTER  So i've given up

Re: SAAFL Division 3 2014

Any club would be gutted @ this let alone one of modern Amateurs proudest clubs.

I must admit of all the clubs I heard of in strife in the pre-season Kilburn was the last club I thought would have the biggest issues.

Yes it's unfortunate that one club lost some revenue but trade places with Kilburn and I know what I'd take.....

Finally they didn't dig their hole, no club deserves this and as a club they didn't bring the leagues image down nor theirs with the way they chose to run the club prior to these issues. As for the floggings just because they continuously lost by 50+ goals doesn't mean they don't deserve their spot in the comp. the problem now is so many clubs think they are Collingwood @ this level and it's a first world problem if your reserves don't get a game 1 week @ the expense if a club who lets be honest would be dying on the inside with their situation can't get a team up to satisfy some egos so they can flog them and kick as many goals possible and brag to their mates @ the club after 8 beers Saturday night.

Their record says they deserve their spot in div 3 and it's unfortunate they are in this position.

Buzzy is awake and appear to be on the mend which is great and should be out if intensive care tomorrow if he keeps improving.

He was standing the mark in a competitive drill and smothered the kick with ball hitting him pretty hard but nothing out of the ordinary, at this stage it appears to be a freak accident where the ball hit him in exactly the wrong stop at exactly the wrong time.

Hi Dols. I hope your schnitty at the Rob Roy tastes as good as last week when you were very confident that North Haven would not only beat Salisbury, but would knock us in the GF! Might want to check that your mushroom sauce wasn't made from mushies of the magic variety.

Don't worry, a 5 turns into a 6 really easily so you can use those shirts again next year when you win the flag in March.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 3 - 2017

I see smosh have a few clearances this week? Understand they are looking at relegation but still disappointing to see players pack up and out before season end. Also surprising to see number 33 for plympton looking to go to Hume football league? Good fast little forward, can any one from plympton tell us why?

All of the above are going to leagues that play this weekend. Clearance page doesn't distinguish whether it's a full clearance, permit, temporary transfer etc. so more likely a case of blokes heading home for the long weekend and playing a game whilst home. I know that the Plympton player is from Albury which is Hume League area so I think your post is a case of "easy tiger".

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2018

Caaaarn can someone just explain WTF it means yet haha?
Basically its a competition run by Triple M for Jars and Louie to own a football team. The word 'own' being used very loosely.

They will do a recap each week on their show of how the team performed, attend a training or two, help with fundraising activities with some auction items and there may even be some cameos from a few ex AFL players. We get a chance to promote the club, our sponsors, other Div 5 clubs and the Adelaide Footy League on prime time radio

It's all a bit of fun really, but hopefully quite beneficial to the club

FightMNDwithDoc

The sporting communities around Australia, and especially the Aussie Rules sporting clubs, are great places to form mateships and bonds that last forever. And when something bad happens, we rally around each other to help each other out. It is with this spirit of mateship that I am asking the Adelaide Football League to get behind the Athelstone Football Club as we rally around one of our own who has been recently diagnosed with MND.

Chris 'Doc' Grigg is a legend at the Athelstone Football Club. On field, his list of achievements are endless - 7 Best and Fairest Awards (6 consecutively) from 12 seasons of A Grade football, two A Grade premiership, a SAFA Association medallist, State representative and 200+ game player. Off field, Chris has coached various junior teams and assisted many coaches of our senior teams. He has also raised 3 fantastic children, which he is extremely proud of. Chris is a lovable larrikin - always happy to laugh with you, at you or be laughed at. When he speaks, people listen, such is the respect people have for him.

Twelve months ago Chris was a normal healthy, just over 50yo male. He noticed his tongue was beginning to often feel cold and also started having trouble with is left arm. After numerous doctors and specialists visits, today he is an MND sufferer. However in the same vain that he tackled opponents on the football field, he is tackling this challenge head on. Inspired by Neale Danniher, Chris wants to raise the public's awareness about MND, its impacts on the life of sufferers and their families and also to raise fund to support research to finding an early detection method and a cure for MND.

To this end the Raggies are holding a "FightMNDwithDOC Day" on July 28th. Coincidently that weekend we are playing the Tea Tree Gully Football Club, who sadly have also gone through the MND pain, losing Damian Lane to the disease last year. On this day the Raggies will wear a specially designed guernsey and post game hold a series of raffles and auctions to raise money for the FightMND cause.

That weekend all the Raggies teams (juniors and seniors) will be pulling their dirty old bootlaces from their boots and replacing them with Royal Blue laces to show their support for cause. The Tea Tree Gully A and B grade teams will be doing the same.

Chris's cause has gained a lot of median and online attention of late. Channel 7 ran a piece on him and his son, reigning Magarey Medalist, Mitch Grigg this week, and I understand Channel 2 is also considering interviewing Chris. Online Malcolm "Rulebook" Ashwood wrote an excellent article for the Footy Almanac website http://www.footyalmanac.com.au/chris-grigg-and-the-fight-against-mnd/ and the hashtag #FightMNDwithDOC is starting to gain some usage and exposure.

Chris also played at Norwood and this Saturday Norwood is holdings its "Count Me In Day" raising funds to support MND research

I am now asking the rest of our great football community to get behind us. We are selling the laces for $5 a pair, $3 of which goes to the FightMND organisation established by Neale Danniher for the purpose of MND research. The other $2 goes to the supplier. $105 will get a team of 21 players kitted out in blue laces ($125 for C grade teams with 25 players). It would be great to see as many teams as possible run out onto the ground on the 28th with blue laces to show their support for the cause to find a cure for MND.

If as a reader the idea appeals to you, please take it back to your Club to discuss it. If you want to buy some laces contact me here and we can organise how we get them to you. I will take orders up until Tuesday the 17th July, place the order with the supplier and have them available in the week beginning 23/7/2018.

Thanks for taking the time to read and consider this and I look forward to being inundated with orders.

Geoff Hepworth

PS Who am I? I played football with Chris at Athelstone throughout his career and consider him close friend and an inspiration. I am also a committee member at Athelstone FC.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 4 - 2018

Thanks to all on here for the season, disappointing for us to go down considering we thought our best was very competitive, unfortunately didn't bring it enough. Beaten comprehensively in the middle all year, shows the difference a good ruckman can make. Div 5 for the first time for us since 2002 as beef said.
Glenunga v Gepps GF I'm tipping, open race for the medal, maybe Armstrong at Pooraka.

On a final note, I don't take too much personally in this game (copped my fair share on Saturday from the faithful) but Gepps Cross really need to have good look at some of what comes out of the mouth of their 'supporters' under that verandah. One particular incident of a racial nature towards one of our lads on Saturday as he came off the ground could've ended really badly if it wasn't for early intervention. I'm all for banter and a bit of a laugh but if you're going to get it as wrong as you did, I'd at least look at putting a fence in front of that area, as there will be interaction between players coming off the ground and supporters at some stage that will not end well with some of the verbal tripe that gets thrown out. The Gepps players were great and the on-field leaders of that club I have a lot of respect for, unfortunately can't say the same for the boundary riders.

Pag I thought you had a bit more intelligence than what you have just written! Third and fourth hand info just doesn't cut it mate!

There was NO racial slur made, a comment was made on how much a Salisbury player looked like Leon Davis and it was that which made the player come into the area where he should never have come. The lad wanted to play the racial game but it was a glib but honest comment and he was at fault by coming back into the front of the group then bleating "don't touch me"! It was also a nice gesture of him to tip the Salisbury trainer on his back in his volatile tantrum!
When your backyard is perfect, then maybe come back but get the facts firstly because you are a fair way off the mark!
BTW, he does look like Leon Davis and that's not being racial but observant!

Not sure Salisbury can throw too many stones either but to each his own.

So the GX supporters who were no doubt being polite and fair to the opposition thought they would just refer to someone as looking like another indegeneous player? What was their purpose in saying it in such a way that the player in question could hear it? Did they just think he'd be interested to know that in their view he looked like Leon Davis?

Then he wanted to play the race card? Not doing a very good job of defending your club. We all know that what comes from that verandah is not encouragement to the opposition. Sounds like Pag is on the mark.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 6 - 2018

I know Carl, i know him very well. I can tell you right now, he has not once contacted any media. Once the video was released on youtube the media found him. I can also tell you he did not even make first contact with the police, they contacted him. You can let your sources know they are way off the mark. I think you also need to listen to the Roo and Ditz interview again, because you are quoting it quite incorrectly.

Then if that's the case, I'll happily apologise - however, it did say he didn't think it was a road he felt he needed to go down right now because when he said it, I thought he was mad for NOT wanting to go there. My point still remains that he didn't need a media circus when he did do it though and more importantly didnt' need to keep providing comment, This still is and will remain my only critisism.

There was and was never intended anything against Carls injury. That's just horrific

A minute for Maggie

From the pen of the HQ,

Hi all,

In light of the very sad news about the passing of Margaret Varcoe from the Angle Vale Football Club, The League is requesting all teams playing in finals this weekend in conjunction with the SANFL, to recognize Margaret with a minutes silence and the wearing of black arm bands.

This is a very sensitive time for all concerned and us as a League so your co-operation with this matter is greatly appreciated from all of us here.

Should clubs have any questions or queries about this request then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,
