Re: JUNIOR FOOTBALL

watching the U12s div2 (maroon league) i find that them using the whole oval is a little bit to big to keep the little tackers in the match?

Seen an under 10 game with a 3/4 oval? Basically a rolling maul unless you have an umpire they pays regular free kicks to spread it out.

Playing on a full oval does seem big at u10/12 level but it keeps the game more open and flowing than reducing the size IMO.

At Cove we prefer the u10's to play on full size to open the game up but negotiate with the opposition with what they'd prefer

At Cove, full size would be about 3/4 :)

Re: Aldinga Sharks Forum

Congrats to all involved in the Footy Show live cross last night. What should have been a brilliant opportunity to promote your club turned into a bloody shambles. You embarrassed not only your club but the entire SFL. How the hell do you expect people to take your club and our competition seriously when you act like that?

I hope you can at least get Saturday right and that something positive comes out of this fiasco

Re: Has Mick Malthouse lost the plot?

Would doubt any coach could do much better with this lot.
They have been playing a lot better over the last month but have just ran out of cattle.
I did love the presser last night though, love the way Mick treats that wanker Stevens with total disdain

Jim, for the first time ever i reckon, I'll disagree.

On Friday night I saw first hand how bad we are. These are a microcosm of our season and I could do this about any game. Problem is, it happens week in week out.

Westhoff takes possession of the ball in the back pocket. I think it was either Johnson or Sheehan ran straight at him. He sidestepped them ran off, created the loose man and they kicked a goal.

Tuohy had a marking contest on the back flank. He created a contest but didn't spoil the ball out of bounds, loses his feet, White runs off and kicks a goal.

Set play from a stoppage in the second quarter. All 18 of our players are in the back half of the ground. The kick comes in and not one player gets anywhere near Westhoff who takes an uncontested mark 20m out from goal.

Contest near full back. We allow the ball to come to ground for them to swoop, they do and result is an easy walk in goal. Side note: Not one "third up" all game destroying contests. We've allowed one on one marking contest all season. Any chance of anyone leaving their man and destroying a contest?

Johnson tackles Carlisle and we get a free kick between centre and half forward. There is a slight delay in getting the ball back to him. He winds up, kicks it to the hot spot 30m out from goal. I think it was Jonas that took an uncontested mark with 3 Port players closest to him. The only Carlton player any where near the contest was Simpson.

Rowe switches play off one step, kick skews off the ground and Port pick it up and waltz into an open goal.

Casboult's kicking for goal. FFS, someone fix it!

Twice I saw instances where instead of clearing a path for a player with the ball, we peeled off to create a loose man and the guy got run down. Gibbs is a classic for it. SHEPHERD FFS.

And worse still, in the first quarter when the game is still anyone's, we have all 18 in our back half. When the ball is turned over, we get a hurried kick from our half back line to three port blokes because there is no one in our forward half.

Point being - reasonable teams get this stuff right more often than we do. Good teams just do it. Excellent teams (like Hawthorn and Sydney) don't even think NOT to do it. It's the footy basics that are killing us. Those things are the reasons we have sent us back in the pack.

Reynella to SAAFL Div3. On the proviso they can keep their juniors in the SFL.
Marion to SAAFL Div7. Absolute no brainer
Lonsdale to SAAFL Div6. Need to move to become competitive and have some success.
Aldinga and Shoes both trying to get to GSFL my mail is it's either both or neither.
Happy Valley to hills league as they can't compete with Bushpigs and are in a serious rebuild as a club.

I can't see the SFL letting all these clubs move so wait for a big surprise from the SFL in the coming weeks......

Re: Southern Football League

Mini bus what a good question!!! Is all going well on the long boat? No I reckon the long boat could be mistaken for the Titanic but it's good to hear some of the "big boys" you mention have noticed.

If you look on their Face Book page all you get is "another great weekend of footy"

I suppose if the right teams are winning and the right players are being named in the best then it doesn't really matter if your A grade has won 2 games for the year

I'm not sure a Facebook page is where you would discuss your club's inner workings or critiques of players and teams. Would have thought that would be done behind closed doors and the social media just a vehicle to promote events and keep people coming to the club. I caught the last quarter of the game and it seems the A's fell short again after being very competitive for the previous 3. Is it fitness, or have they forgotten how to win? I'm a glass half full person and I love the fact that so many young fellas are getting game time, this can only be good for the future. Was also great to see Browny out there and I did notice Ryan Borowski played B's, so a good strong body to protect the younger players will help.

The best footy they play is good enough, but those 10-15 minute lapses are killing them. Sort that out and they are on track for a better result.

AFC - you don't need to post all the inner sanctum crap on the Face Book page but I reckon they need to make some sort of statement letting every one know they've noticed and are doing some thing about it.

Yeah lots of kids are getting a game but they need to get their hands on the footy or dont pick them.

Meanwhile the bloke who was the ruck last year in playing twos

Some of these young blokes look scared - may be Boz running through them at training will be a good thing

Re: Southern Football League

Flaggies and Reynella have had plenty of lean years too, so it's all a cycle.

I NEVER played in a senior win v Valleys in 7 seasons. Let the current cycle reign!

Yep and I happily never played in a losing team agains Flaggies while at HVFC, so it's all swings and roundabouts. Same teams can't be at the top forever.. push through and come out the other side with loyal kids who have 40-50 AGrade games under their belt and it will turn again. (Like Flaggies now)

Re: Southern Football League

Upto 5 clubs looking at leaving next year. Flaggies, Happy Valley, Reynella, Marion and Osb. Anyone from those clubs care to comment or is it still to early. Was around this time last year that Brighton and Morphy's announced they were leaving.

Have heard that OSB and Marion and going to be in the Adelaide Footy League in 2018.....almost definite. Reynella too have put the feelers out.

The SFL has always been a strong league, what the hell is going wrong?

If Lonsdale and Marion go it will be a good thing for the league and hopefully the consolidation the comp needs as a 9 team A grade comp all with juniors left. Feel sorry for Lonsdale as they try hard, but have no sympathy for Marion.

Always a focus on the poor performances at the bottom end of the ladder, but not much focus on the top, the last few years have shown a very even top 6 clubs and the standard when these clubs play each other is top notch. Confirmed by recent association and zone results along with Brighton dominating Div 3 after finishing 4th in 2016, this is still a strong league.

Any Carlton fan who is sad about Gibbs leaving just remember this will most likely happen...

It may happen during the regular season but we all know Betts goes missing when it counts.

ANZAC ROUND & DIGGERS DAY
The first ever S.A. Diggers Day in conjunction with the Anzac round and the A Grade grand final replay between Flagstaff Hill and Noarlunga is next Saturday, 21st April.

It's getting (or will be getting) very positive promotion across all media with a huge footy and community crowd expected.

Be a part of this SA first...and bring your family and friends. It will be a proud Anzac event not to be missed which includes a spectacular, live Anzac commemoration ceremony with all the armed services represented.

At the end of the day he's just got to think how lucky he is to be playing in the AFL and take comfort in the fact that he's not going to Carlton

The gap’s closing, in a couple of year’s time he might be wishing he was at Carlton...

Yes they gained 2 places on us from last year, but I wouldn't call finishing bottom with 2 wins closing the gap

Re: Trade + Draft Period 2018

I'm happy with the trade period for us. Newman to assist back and be a longer term replacement for Simpson. Fasolo, shorter term replacement whilst our forwards develop. Setterfield, if he can get his knee right, he'll assist us greatly in the midfield. Rated more highly than Kennedy by GWS and finally McGovern. He'll help us immensely. Great pair of hands and a great field kick. He can only assist our kids up forward and can swing back if need be.

Overall, we kept pick 1 and gave away two second round picks for the four players - with a few third and fourth rounders which matter little.

Although, in saying that I wouldn't have minded going after Jordan Roughead and or Collyer for basically nothing!

Re: Under pressure.......

Bolton is under a heap of pressure. Carlton have gone backwards and he only ever has cliches. His game plan if they have one is rubbish and will be interesting to see how long he lasts if they produce the same rubbish as last year. Just because he came from the Clarko school of coaches does not mean he can coach.

Interesting Wubsy again has a thing with the Eagles. I reckon with Sydney’s ageing players they will slide. Kennedy, Parker, Jack aren’t getting any younger

Maybe Bolton and Hinkley can swap jobs given they both role out cliches and have taken their teams backwards.
I’m not convinced with Bolton but not sure who could do a bettter job at Carlton.

If Carlton were to lose Cripps to a LTI they would be better off forfeiting each week

At least our supporters still show up when we are at rock bottom.
Not like one of the Adelaide teams here when their fans went missing and tarps were required.

Carlton will be better this year and will surprise a few teams.

Re: Carlton

I'll say it for the 1000th time. WE DO NOT NEED ANYMORE DRAFT PICKS!

Giving up No 1 is a great result. It shows we're not going to go through the motions whilst Curnow, Cripps, McKay etc get older while young kids have to develop. Develop them at the same time and bring them through at the same time.

Finally, a strategy!

As far as Bolton is concerned. the catch phrase around the club has something to do with playing 30-50 games together. Brisbane are close to that stage, Melbourne are getting there. It's not the silver bullet but it means you give yourself a chance. Our defence has started playing games together but our forward line hasn't. Nor has our mids. Till then, the only worry is that the media are putting pressure on the club again. The club has been brilliant in the calm communication unlike the Malthouse days where it was all over the shop with mixed messages.

On top of this, Richmond and Collingwood stuck with their coaches and success (or variations of) occurred straight away. Why change? If there is some reason that is outstanding, then do so. At the moment, I can't see it.

Losses like that are losses you have to have in our situation. Are they pleasant? Absolutely not. Do we want to go through it again? No. However, I have watched our last three seasons closely and we're getting there. We're not 1 season behind Brisbane, we're 1.5-2 behind Brisbane but we are getting there.

I will be happy to back Bolton until I see any reason not to. At the moment I'd feel very sorry for Bolton to do all the hard yards and not get a chance to reap the rewards.
