Train to Football Park

Postby Sojourner » Mon Jan 01, 2007 12:15 pm

Why is it that the trains run across Frederick Road at Seaton, yet the State Government can not set to the job of running a spur line from that track up to Football Park?

The Bus hub at footy park is good, yet it is only a part of the solution. I read an article slamming Football Park suggesting that a Docklands style stadium should be buit in the railyards, yet if you connect footy park by rail you can move a number of people from Football Park to the Adelaide Railway Station on an express train fairly quickly.

If Football Park was connected to the Rail network, I think that would be a wise move considering the extensions planned for Football Park and where the stadium is heading in the next few years.

Why move a rail network there? Only one game is played there each year, seems a waste of time and money if they did to me.

Where West Lakes Blvd. Runs at the start near the trainline used to be the old Hendon Line. But that was removed due to lack of use by the Sta back in the early 80's. the plan was to extend the line down to West Lakes but with More pro buses state governments this will never happen. One feels it is time to electrify the Adelaide rail network and look into developing a better public transport network for Adelaide

They did have it right. Melbourne never got rid of their network and look how it compares to Sydney traffic wise. Sydney is a dying choking rotting mess, Melbourne goes from strength to strength.

Whilst people may criticise today's government for having the balls to reinstate tram lines, let it be known that it was the liberals who got us in this mess by ripping the network up.

I rekon it would be great - the buses finish to early both ways from footy park.

Have a few beers after a game or event - then catch the train in to the city for more beer !!!
It is what it is !!!

Dude, it was raised in the SANFL forum. There is only 1 SANFL game at the ground a year, but you are right, IMHO the AFL games dont count, the harder it is for those morons to get to and from the place the better IMHO.

I bet the NAFC rings up the Crows and pleads with them not to send the annual $400,000 dividend.

Not that it has anything to do with the point re this forum but yep, and at the same time rings up and pleads for them to give the SANFL clubs their crowds, conditions, media exposure, standard, players and sponsors back too.

Admittedly as an interstate visitor who watches my team 1-2 times a year in Adelaide a train to Prison Park would be excellent.

But the more people go by train to the footy, the less people will want to come with their BBQs and make a day of it in true ideosyncratic South Australian style.

The pre-game 'tailgating' is a distinct and unique part of SA footy culture 8) . you may get the odd car make a picnic of it outsude the G, but the amount of people doing it in Adelaide is something I think is mega cool. 8)

I suppose it is an offshoot of the fact that you can't drink inside the ground. So everyone just rocks up pissed already.

It's always great to have a Pre-match barbie & coupla bevvies at Alcatraz Stadium...
But not so easy when those AFL bastards schedule the game for 12:00pm or 12:40pm on a Sunday just to squeeze it in for
bloody T.V. coverage! :x
