SANFL community camps

Postby Jar Man Out » Fri Jan 19, 2007 8:45 am

Though i am loathed to use an idea from the AFl . I actually think this could benefit the SANFL. Community /Pre season camps where SANFL clubs spend a week in their suburban/country zone. SANFL help with some of the cost.

Running footy clinics
visiting schools
local community events
training at locals ovals.
golf days/corporate days

Westies down at the riverland training on berri oval. Sausage sizzles and membership drives.
So the country kids can see what the SANFL is all about. South triaing at Encounter Bay.

North at Pirie. Bays down at Mt Gambier. etc ....

Good Idea, but a lot of players in the SANFL have day jobs and would have to ask for another week off, as they already have small training camps on weekends and the like.

Good work Phil - that's the sort of exposure we need. There would be plenty of other examples of possibilities for clubs to do in their areas, esp such as Pasky, Cleve, Lucindale and Riverland field days, although Pasky field-days are usually around GF time if Eagles are in them.

Dutchy - I think the Bays spend a bit if time down their pre-season with their academy side of things?

Also, reckon the Eagles did this a couple of years ago on the YP, mainly training, but also had caoching clinics.

It is an excellent idea, one that should be capiltalised more on. Good for the country players to get amongst their friends and families for a time, show team-mates where/how they came from, etc.
