Geez Micky, there's alot of things that you could call the SCS but stuck up is a stretch :)
If Sturt can't wear white and be called the Double Blues what are Norwood (Redlegs) to do then? Wear red pantyhose?

1970s? Geez... I thought you were Torrens in the 1990's mate... maybe I know your club better than you!

OK so maybe you've proven that you weren't in the cheer squad but with the constant use of Torrens in all your posts, were you one of the Sturt fans in front of the grandstand harping on about us being two teams?

I refer to them as Torrens because I went to Woodville matches every fortnight with a mate and this team doesn't represent Woodville from my perspective, others disagree, each to their own.

Mickyj wrote:CSBOWES I was following West Torrens and now Woodville West Torrens probably long before you ever started watching football. And the only thing that hasn't changed is the fact that sturt produces stuck up arrogant fans(thats the way your post CSBOWES come out). And the best example would be the cheer squad .

Now lets bring on Sunday so one of us can have a bigger laugh than the other

Well you're 47 and I'm 38, so there's not a big difference there. As stated in another post, I used to go to Woodville games every fortnight with a mate, we'd alternate between the Warriors and the Blues. For me the merge wasn't a merge, but rather a larger, broke club taking over a smaller, poor performing club. There's no doubt heaps of Torrens and Woodville fans are happy with the merge, but others are not.

I happen to be one of those who thought the merge wasn't equitable. When there was talk of merging Norwood and Sturt in the 1990s, the Woodville Torrens merge was the one raised at the club meetings as the reason why we shouldn't contemplate it for one moment, as we'd be the Woodville in such a merge at that time.

So no reason for animosity over my use of the name Torrens, my Sturt friends are amused / bemused to me using it, but for me its Torrens, it doesn't make me think any less of the club that I consider them Torrens. Besides, for ages we could never beat the Eagles and I'm sure Eagles fans were incredibly arrogant = confident when they played us.

For this weekend, I'm very confident.

Could we lose? Yep.

Do I think we will. Nope.

I like giving Torrens/Eagles/WWWT supporters crap, simply because, we were your bitches for years, so geez you have to take some pleasure in beating some clubs. I feel nothing beating North, South, West and others.

Beating Torrens is bliss.

Beating Norwood is even better.

Not me mate... I don't really interact with the other fans at games, I go with some mates and their kids and so it's more of a family moment for our group... we have enough banter and payouts back and forth amongst ourselves!

I like your confidence csbowes. No point in hiding it if that's what you feel! It's not like we need to tow the cliche line as fans. Although the arrogance is a bit smelly with the disrespect to the club name.

Trying to be as impartial as possible, the first game at Unley Eagles were a much better team. The second game at Woodville Sturt really did dominate most periods of the game, but lack of finishing and the Eagles brilliant finishing saw the Eagles win. Obviously last week was a domination by Sturt. Based on that and the performance of the past fortnight (Sturt beating Central and us losing to North) plus Sturt winning last years final (absolutely dominated the first half of that match as well) Sturt go in clear favourites.

I have hope because we've made it to the finals and having watched a lot of Eagles teams over the last decade or so we've managed to win a lot of finals. This Eagles team also has some great players that if clicked into gear can beat anyone on their day.

Totally agree about the cliche bit... I'm sure some Eagles fans are confident they'll turn the tables... in the end it's not last week, it's this week and if Torrens come out and play tough, desparate football, we're in for a fight. If we go in cock-a-hoot... we'll get rolled.

As for the Torrens thing, I have to say I'm surprised how many WWT fans find it annoying, stupid, offensive, maybe if you were all Woodville fans, who liked the merge, then I'd understand. But I would have thought West Torrens fans would be fairly ho hum about whether some fans refer to them as Torrens.

OK as you say each to their own.

Despite being a West Torrens fan before the merger I cringe when people use either Torrens or Woodville to refer to us - I view it as having either little respect or knowledge of us and the SANFL. I know some people say it out of habit just like I do when using traditional oval names, but it has been 20 years since the merger.

As the first game I can remember attending was in 1987, I have been a WWT fan far longer than West Torrens. I can remember a mate at school in the mid 1990's telling me it was a takeover but to this day I still couldn't say who took over who, especially when I compare our merger to that of Brisbane and Fitzroy.

Having said that, I agree with your thoughts on this week's game - I think Sturt are hot favourites. Yes we could win, but it's going to need a massive turnaround. It will be the sweetest of victories and a massive win for the club if we do get up however.

And even though this review is 6 pages long, the actual result of last Sunday counted for nothing.
At 3PM on Sunday if Sturt supporters trudge out of AAMI after a loss, they aren't going to be saying "Well at least we beat them last week". Likewise if we lose we won't be saying "Oh well, we beat them 2 out of 3 times during the minor round".

Perhaps we should just give Mickey and Bowes a pair of gloves, throw them in a ring together, and sit around an drink beer. I got my money on Bowes, he's only 38 whereas Mickey can remember the seventies. ;)
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
