Dash, how about not "like" some of our state icons, how about "with" them.

Something along the lines of
"THe state with the best fish......... the state with the best wine.........the state with the best footy........"
Or maybe substitute "real" for best.
Or have pictures on world-wide franchises, then the "only state with such and such....... and the only state with SANFL - a real footy league."
Something along these lines - I'm sure someone on this site can come up with a bit better re-working of these.

Focus on the state's uniquessness, maybe quirkiness, a bit like the old 80's State Bank "don't have fritz in Sydney.....never tried a Woodies lemonade

We've had more serial killers per head of population than the other states!
Can't see that stamped into a number plate though!

The irony there is to the identity of who'd be operating the press to make said numberplates!

Whats gonna be the angle, Biffing Blokes .Geez Not only bring back Tim Shaw team him up with Ugly Dave Gray,Al Grazby and Ted Bullpit ahead of Kerls.Do we have that many wheelchair spaces at our grounds for the ones that may have be influenced or take seriously anything he has to say these days.

Pickle me Grandmother

Seriously though, I think the Kerls ads would be great. I don't understand what people are complaining about. When we had Tim Shaw, everyone complained they were too tacky, so they get an SANFL legend to promote the game, and people complain that he's too old and suggest using someone like Barry Robran - hello same problems. Some people obviously just can't say anything positive.

What a bunch of bitter old cynics we have turned into ..... Neil Kerly is as much a part of SANFL history as anyone. Just because your current job involves commentary on the AFL doesn't mean you are out of the SANFL "clique" does it? If you had to list your top 5 living legends of the SANFL you would look at the likes of Robran, Ebert .... and Kerls. It might be sensible to wait until we see the ads before we make too many (more) big statememts.

Without seeing the ads, my feeling is that using a Football person to do the promotion has to be better than Tim Shaw .... but lets wait and see hey?

what the SANFL should do is have 10 legends from all the old clubs ie.
Centrals G. "Mr. Centrals" Window
Glenelg. D.K "fred" Phillis
North. B Robran
Norwood. G McIntosh
Port. R Ebert
South. M Naley
Sturt. P Bagshaw
West. N Kerley
Torrens. L Head
Woodville. M Blight.

Then use today's Nine captains with these legends of the game to make an Ad.

Nuckles is a legend!!
And a larger than life character
I think its a good move!

Blokes like Grenville and Wilbur would be great characters to have in there aswell!!

I reakon they are targeting those that stopped coming when the Crows and Power joined the AFL and those that actually like to see the un-sanitised game!

Don't patronise the Under 20s by saying they would have no idea who Kerls is. Geez!
They have eyes, ears and elders to tell them.

I know Bill Wedding was a legend and Doug Olds was dynamite. Never saw them play, but my folks did. Dont let the legends die!
We have to pass on the history!

I think the ads should show vision of the infamous Kerley/Nygaard Nwd Oval 1969 incident - now that ad would then be a REAL attention grabber!

Vision might be hard to find. They might have to do a re-enactment.

something like those other ads....

LOL.

Why can't they market the game in the way people recognise? Show great goals, great marks and big 'hits' with a half decent song behind it then show where the games are on this week?

I think it's fair to say that not all SANFL clubs have a lot of faith in Paul Anderson and the SANFL marketing department, a sentiment shared by me.

Perhaps an ad showing Cornes Snr kicking the famous goal from the 73 GF, followed by Chad hitting the post against Geelong last Sat night - to a theme of "SANFL footy - where the players kick goals...."

I think it's also not unreasonable to suggest that the SANFL, as custodian of the Crows / Puffs first and the 'local league' second, wouldn't actually want the 'local league' to be seen to be too successful. With 40 thousand mums and dads at AAMI for $25 a pop each week, it's hardly going to be in their interests to push the 'local' comp as a viable alternative is it? Hence the crap promotion, hence the failure to support intiatives like C31 or do anything in the least bit proactive.

Hopefully pure passion from Knuckles is enough for these ad's to have an impact.

Read his books and you might see why he was approached. Fantastic.

Great ideas provided from Strawb07 and Topsywaldron. The "wait there's more" ad campaign was a steaming pile of you know what. I like the ads, which I think where done by KWP!, that went something like: "Before you marry him, er...um. there's something you must know...er...um"..."Well, what is it?" (pause) "Well, er, he's a Central's supporter!!!"

Most memorable footy campaigns were the NSWRL's 'Simply the best' with Tina Turner...

And the AFL's ads with all the international sporting stars like John McEnroe.

IIRC, they had an emphasis on the game at its most spectacular.

The SANFL has a marketing department?
