Re my posting above, the figures probably show that despite Collingwood being in the top 2 "spenders" in the league over the last 15 years they've got one premiership (after a draw initially). As long as a club has a lower limit of spend they can and have got results. Hence they should cap the spend if they think it's an advantage (even if the facts don't indicate this). Rucci was very selective.
I've spoken to a friend who is a full time assistant coach for a state based team. He reckons he could easily do it part time, there's only so much players can take in, so many meetings, new ideas etc. often these coaches are just attempting to justify their positions.

Port Adelaide have an opportunity to manipulate the draft by getting the SANFL arm to do some serious scouting of their zone and hide them away until draft time. Scott Lycett (sp?) is a perfect example.

AFL footy is big business and for anyone to believe that they won't do such a thing is a fool

With the amount of scouts etc. these days, I doubt anyone can be bonafide hidden anymore. Theres been players hidden - or reportedly hidden - before by some Vic clubs and none of them came of anything. Players are earmarked at 15-16 as AFL talent, not just 3 months before a draft so unless you think the Magpies should start hiding 15 year olds who look like they can kick a footy then I dont see how it could work.

Well if that's the case then there is no need for Reserves sides. The players not picked for the main side can just have another training session on the weekend. What would they get out of a non-competitive game that they could not get out of game simulations at training?
