EAGLE NEWS #3

Postby cd » Mon Mar 12, 2007 2:47 pm

As stated in News #2 there were going to be announcements that i reckon would have everyone talking.

The 3 items of news are:
1. New Jumpers
2. New Leadership group
3. 2007 is announced as Gavin Colville's Testimonial Year.

Check out the details in the separate thread. However some background facts may be of interest:
The new design recognises/incorporates the first Woodville jumper with the green yoke and the Torrens eagle jumper. The clash jumper maintains the integrity of the design.

SANFL survey over 12 months ago of all clubs recognition factors in and out of zones gave us some reasons to review our jumper. Children out of our zone had great difficulty recalling the jumper. But more so within our zone other clubs jumpers were better known than ours. (As I am unsure of the status of the research I cant release details of other clubs or be more specific).

Our jumper of last year was one designed to be of interest to youngsters with the splashes of green and blue on the gold and splashes of green and gold on the blue with the stripes on the shoulder and on the edge - with the Eagle outline on the chest - a modern jumper with an eye on youngsters.

So in response a more traditional and simpler jumper has been designed with the Eagle predominate and respect to our founding clubs. I reckon it is a winner and the kids will warm to it with the High Flying Eagle centre stage.

Congratulations to new skipper Justin Cicolella, Vice Captain Mark McKenzie and Deputy Vice Luke Powell - a quality group to lead our players.

Gavin Colville will be honoured for his outstanding contributions to our club with 2007 being his testimonial year - special events for Gavin will be announced soon.

I was a big fan of their first guernsey but I think the new home guernsey is their best yet and a great recognition of both pasts, well done to all involved in designing it. Still unsure about the new away top though.

I thought our news would get folk talking and by 51 posts in one day on the thread just about the jumpers - without mentioning the leadership group and gavin's testimonial - for once i think i was right. Doesn't happen very often - just ask Mrs D!

Eagles fans make sure you get to members night to see the new jumpers and the full merchandise range - with a couple of announcements still to be made.

Will be there for sure CD. Wouldn't miss it for the world. I wonder what the other couple of announcements are. I really do wish we'd look at changing our logo, it's starting to look a little outdated, time for a change I think.

Spelly put this on the thread about jumpers - think i'm accurate - 40 times we've been representes at state level?

What a great 16 seasons we have had - although to be truthful should have a few more premierships.
But it is a great record with growing memberships - with our largest yet last year at 2051 - working on another record this season too.

16 seasons
2 premierships
runner up 5 times
7 grand final appearances
2 Ken Farmer medallists
2 Jack Oatey medallists
13 finals campaigns
NO Wooden Spoons
5 Reserves Flags
3 U19 Flags
4 U17 Flags
38 players drafted to AFL
40 state representatives

And hasn't our latest news got people talking!
