West Adelaide V South Adelaide

WA 13.9(80) defeated SA 9.12(66).

Felt it was a good standard trial with both teams taking a lot away from it.

Feisty chap isn't he? He stood out for me in the Bloods team but with 8 on the benches I had a bloody hard time keeping track of who was on the oval when, and where they were playing. Both coaches seemed to be have a good hard look at their squads and moved players around a bit.
To be brutally honest I think West were more switched on. The South players looked like they were just not as interested as the Bloods. Maybe that could have been because if they got near the ball they got swarmed over.

Still it was the first almost real footy game of the year so I enjoyed it.

mmm I think our boys looked tired and leg weary, their skill level was not up to par and that West really were fair dinkum. I beleive were flogged in the ruck ,particularly when Parry was off for long periods.
Cupido was at his brilliant best, obviously with a point to prove:reminded me of how he played in 2 games for us last year....
plenty of players absent from both sides, hopefully we will improve in the next couple of weeks before the real stuff commences.

Former Trinity College junior, spent plenty of time on Centrals' list. Never looked like playing a league game.
I too hope he makes it. He's spent a lot of time having a crack - so hopefully he gets something out of it.

Played half in attack and half in defence, attacked the ball hard, marked ok and his disposal was better this week. They call him heater and would definately get a game in the league side at some stage this year

Question for the souths supporters

Predagast was OK but not a sensation like the wraps on him and McGrath (he does look like he may go missing at times this year,,, not the same impact player as a DAVEY

What was your thought on Big Lenney Clark, had two years with the lions on the rookie list after leaving westies, Parry is as good as they get & King is a big lad but thought we dominated with Lenny and the other lad Lutze, a junior was definately trying hard all day ??? your thoughts guys???

I thought your rucks did well when they had a good run at the bounce/throw in but when Parry and King got them body to body they dropped off a bit.
All in all they looked very promising, especially if they can get stuck into the weights over the next season or two.

In West's reserves, Simon McCormick, first game because of injury, looked a natural league player.

Young rover, Sam Mcdonald was very impressive.

Didn't see Pram lady, but I'd estimate the crowd at about 30 to 35 thousand.

Well, between that and about 400, perhaps closer to the 400 than the 30 thousand.

Have seen some very positive comments made about Gray, but interesting to see he didn't make West's Best players. Was it a case of him not having a lot of the ball, but being very effective with his disposal when he did get it?

The best player list didn't come from westies.

Gray was very good up forward in the first half, kicking 2 goals and was sensational on-ball in the 2nd half.

I agree with dash, definitely top 3 on the ground.

I hadn't seen him play before the game and wondered if he'd be up to league standard yet. When I left, I wondered if we'd have him for very long.

A Lot like

Postby dash61 » Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:39 pm

Robert Gray - (west adelaide / port power)

Very much like

Richard Douglas - (Glenelg / adelaide crows)

Tip
Watch a power rookie listed player with the eagles (Batsanis) him and gray were the standouts for their side and the eagles lad must be quite good as well
