Round 4 Sturt v Norwood

Postby sturtpeter » Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:02 am

Sorry to correct you TRB, but we actually beat the Panthers at Unley in 2005 first Round, after a 7 goal to zip 2nd Quarter and a display from the mercurial Jade Sheedy that I will remember for a lifetime :) :) :)

It was the following game at Unley played on Sat May 14, that the then drought broke on that day, Norwood won in an upset by 21 points and the Norwood crowd deservedly gave their brave side an overwhelming ovation as they left the field

We then beat Port under lights at AO and then lost the following game to the Doggies at NAP or whatever after leading most of the day and DG actually couldn't bear to watch the last Quarter.

Different Sturt, different Coach and a more emotional victory-incited side will play on Sat following the emotional farewell to Len Fitzgerald today.

Go U Blues! :D :D :D

Interesting lineup the Legs have chosen ... I know the Crows "own" Bryce Campbell as such, but my understanding is that it's on their instruction that he's playing half a game in the Ressies again, I hope they remember that if WE ever decide to run one of their players in the Magoo's for 2 weeks!

The pessimist in me also thinks Matty Thomas is a good chance to be the inclusion for the Power tonight, although I note both teams have named an extended IC bench.

Would imagine this game is there for the taking for both teams and I think it will probably come down to who wants it the most, meaning Sturt would head in slight favourites give the determination and belief they've shown thus far and Norwood haven't.

Look forward to catching up with some of you Sturt lads tomorrow!

Well done to the speaders it probably means they are off the bottom. Too good for our boys, too tough, too fast, too talented. I cant speak highly enough of the way they played. We were down but we will fight back in a couple of weeks time.

No doubt norwood were terrific yesterday. They beat us all over the ground. We had no answer for them. The rain kept us in it for a quarter and a half, but when the rain stopped norwood took over completely. They were harder at the football than us, first at the footy, hunted in packs. The redlegs played the sort of footy I wanted the Blues to play yesterday. Well done norwood.

Agreed, the 'Legs were really switched on and made Sturt look quite ordinary.

Norwood was very hungry for a win, their tackling was persistent and they played clever wet weather footy. Their loose man in defence (McGuinness) rebounded any attack which was excellent coaching. We really stuffed up with over-tall selections - Feasty should have been rested, Bowen spent the entire time on the bench. Of our big men DeLuca was the only one to have any real influence. Wasn't a day for talls, having said that Vlatko kicked a few and was dangerous all day.

The umpiring was pretty ordinary but to be honest, some strange decisions seemed to go Sturt's way. The result could have been worse!

3-1 is a nice place to be going into the bye but that will quickly evaporate with performances like that. Too good Norwood.

topsywaldron wrote:Norwood can win if it rains heavily, Sturt have a letdown after last week, Norwood rediscover the art of disposal, the Legs coaching panel finally lose patience with those players who refuse to adhere to team rules and the umpires give us a dream run.

Sturt by a bit then.

Glad to get that wrong.

Great performance from Norwood given Sturt's form and the shattering loss to South the week before. It was, imho, all set up by a fantastic defence superbly led Kieren McGuiness, a contender for recruit of the year, and Ed Lower who shut Chambers out of the game. The midfielders kept up the pressure on the ball and body for four quarters and their good work was finished off well by Vlatko, who's having a ripper season so far, Puopolo and Wonaeamirri whose skills in the wet were a class above almost everyone on the field.

Now to keep up our winning run against the Roosters. :D

Bad luck for Brant that there's two Lowers. :D

Bad luck for me that I can't tell them apart. :D

Thanks to Neums for the ripper photo that told the story of the day, Norwood first to the footy and Sturt chasing jumpers.

*Whew* nice to chalk something up in the W column, the season was looking pretty grim given the teams we face in the next two weeks.

Well done to both sets of supporters who made it to Unley on Saturday (and all SANFL matches for that matter) too!
