Be interested in South supporters opinion of best players for both sides today, was amazed at some of the players that got good comments at the NAFC club tonight.

Is Ladhams fat or does the TV just add kilos?

What do Rooster supporters expect from this group this season? Are you thinking top 5, top 3, Grand Final or even Premiership?
I obviously dont see as much of them as you rooster supporters but Campbell and Edwards have been loses along with Hargraves even though his best footy is past. Have you guys missed the boat in terms of a flag, you had a good chance last season and would Jars come under the pump should you fail to make the GF?

I don't think we've missed the boat at all but I think we could have fluked one last year or at least a GF berth if we hadn't had such a bad run of injuries in the finals but that may be in part to the way the players were trained during the year so no excuses.
In regard to this year, originally I thought nothing less than a premiership would do but I cant see that happening now so a GF berth might be what we aim for.
I hope Jars would come under the pump if we don't make a GF and perhaps it'll take another coach to take us the full distance ala Sturt with Carman/Phillips.
Im still expecting a 2nd or 3rd spot this year, anything less would be a huge underachievement with our list, anything above, ie a premiership would be an unbelievable achievement against the Dogs but I can't see it happening.

South supporters where are you?
Im honestly curious about your impressions on the game and if you should have won it or not or if you're happy with the draw?

Full marks to the Panthers fans today, they always get more peole than/ and make more noise than the Bays supporters ever have.
Very impressive in that rain with the game on TV, well done to them for getting out there.

i went to the game today in difficult conditions i thought it was a tough fought out game impressed by the way south pressured north and kept going all day we were a bit defensive in the last qtr but who wouldnt be 14 points up half way through, to norths credit they kept on fighting back a bit of poor kicking helped the draw along the way.

wasnt happy about a draw this arvo but thinking well we couldve easily lost and got no points and it puts us in the five :D

The Whisper wrote:Crowd in very good spirits throughout, and an excellent game to be at. A draw really the fairest result after both teams had plenty of the play. Interested to look up at the ABC-TV box in the stand, and see the former host of Total SANFL, CK, up there with the team for the day. Perhaps the ABC have seen the potential the other station apparently didn't?

Just on that CK didn't seek me out but Moggy(Ian Moggridge) the ABC stats man did and lovely to catch up with him, if anyone gets the chance to chat to Moggy at any time make sure you do, a top bloke with an awesome SANFL knowledge always willing to have a chat to anyone, may you be around doing the stats for many a year with the ABC Moggy! As I understand it Moggy has a few health issues or has in the past (the Spanish Dancer) and its great to see him still putting in week in week out, a treasure of the SANFL.

Watched the game on teev and was rivetted. Wasn't too happy with some of the commentating as apparently all the frees going South's way were "Soft" or "Technically speaking there.." while North's were awarded to hard working young gentlemen who constantly put themselves in dangers way. (is there an icon for sarcasm?)

But to Ladhams credit his comments to his interviewer at the end of the game said it like it is, "Not happy with the draw...." "See you next week".

PS. I would like to apologise to my wife for locking her out of the house at 3/4 time. She really wasn't talking that much.

Not really sure how to feel about the draw. On one hand, we should have never lost being 14 up half way through the last Q. On the other hand, if one of those last 2 shots on goal had gone through we would have lost (was the first of those really a free kick? Hmm).

Still believe we should have won.

Better players from a south point of view were McGrath (a couple of the best wet weather goals you're likely to see), Maddox looks to be a good pickup, williams was good, alipate down back, twoomey and warren tried hard up forward. Most guys did their bit.

That Bennett handball now looks very costly doesnt it? :?

Great game to be at :D

Mate, that last quarter of footy you played last year cost you a GF berth. You were on top in the mid-field but delivery into the forward lines was crap. The Eagles were steadier under pressure. I know its early but looking at the seasons stats to date Norf are second in defence and about 6th in attack (see Phil H's stats). Has there been a change in tactics cause I seem to remeber last year you being top in attack and low in defence?
We used to be good :-(

Question to North Fans .

If Hargraves was still at the club and kicked five in the reserves on the weekend like he did for Port.

Would he be selected for the roosters league team this week with Weatherly struggling.???

In a word - Yes, but the problem of accuracy which is why we ultimately lost, is a bit bigger than 1 player being out of form.

On a wet day where you need to maximise opportunities and where we had 15 more inside 50's and 6 more scoring shots then we really should have had that game won by at least 3 goals. If you watch the tape, North players managed to miss 7 set shots for a total of 6 behinds and one from Weatherley that didn't even make the distance from 30 out on the half time siren. At least 3 of those behinds were deadset easy shots even allowing for the conditions and the others were very "getable" as well, all were almost dead in front and no further out than 30 metres.

Those players (Alleway/Weatherley/Howard/Martin and Allen) that missed those shots should look at the tape and see how Ben Warren and Heath Younie managed to kick truly from more difficult angles and distances and take some leasons from their kicking - especially Allan and Weatherley with their unforgivable first and last kick misses  .

If Hunter hadn't missed that easy shot after marking two metres out South would have won.
If the free kicks that should have been paid to South players, but were somehow missed by the umpires, were awarded then South would have won.

Gerard Bennett handpassing to a North player running into an open goal didn't help matters either.

He didn't look too happy when I reminded him of it after the game when he told me I had to wait for the 2nd siren to cross the oval.

IMO benno has been struggling a bit this year. Still a good 1 on 1 defender, but just doesnt seem as clean or sure of himself when he gets the footy these days.
