i would probably suggest we would have the most possessions or at the very least be top 3 as whichever of us are calling the opposition we always seem to saying less than our glenelg calling statistician.

Thanks for your scientific analysis of the situation, May-Z.

From Moggie's magic pen* :!:

He does an amazing job really for someone doing it by himself - whenever we have compared our stats to his, they are always extremely close.

anytime just keeping it simple for everyone.

as for a third party i dont think its best. i cant talk for all the clubs but we take what we do very serioulsy and wouldnt make the stats up just to make some of our players look better statistically.

Ian "Moggy" Moggrige but he was ill last week and Chris Kendall filled in.
If Glenelg were playing an ABC game there'd be 3 blokes doing the same stats. :?

A third party doing the stats would be fine, providing they have enough resources.

The Advertiser stats are not up to scratch because they only have two people doing it (one for each team) and they do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper. The quality of the clubs statistics are much better because they

 use laptops with specialised software to record the stats (most if not all clubs do this now)
 they have more people involved - specialised callers who get to know the players very well, and specialised keyboard enterers

I don't believe that clubs fudging stats on purpose would be an issue. As May-Z said we take the accuracy of our stats very seriously, and from what I have heard/seen most of the other clubs do as well.

I'm certain a club wouldn't fool themselves by the statistician changing stats, but I can imagine a club amending these a bit to send the wrong messages to future opponents who can't be bothered doing the research properly.

Would be very interested to see a few samples of club stats vs Tiser stats vs Moggie's stats.

Make that 4 actually - both clubs take opposition stats, plus the ABC, plus the Advertiser. In years gone by the radio have done their own stats as well, so sometimes there have been 5 teams recording the same thing! :?

Now we always give a print out of our stats to the radio guys at the breaks in play. (I don't think any other clubs do this though).

Well, I don't know about the other clubs, but I have been comparing our stats vs the Advertiser ones for a number of years now, and they consistently have 20-30 less possessions than us, whereas the 3-4 times I have checked our stats against Moggies, they have always been within 5 possessions.
