NORWOOD’S JESSE AISH WINS ROUND 7 COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION

Jesse Aish from the Norwood Football Club has been named the Round Seven Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.
In his first League game of the season and just his second League appearance, 20 year old Aish was named in the Redlegs’ best in their 11 point victory over West Adelaide at Broadspectrum Oval on Saturday.
Playing on the half forward line, Aish had a real impact on the game accumulating 15 possessions, including 12 kicks, 3 handballs and 3 goals, 2 of which were scored in the crucial stages of the last quarter.
A product of the Norwood Football Club’s junior system, Aish has waited patiently to play his second League match after suffering a hamstring injury during the pre-season. Norwood’s Football Operations Manager, Jamie Mason says “Aish is an exciting player with the ability to kick goals, take a mark under pressure and play as a running midfielder”.
Jesse is the son of former Norwood champion and SA Football Hall of Fame Member, Michael Aish.

Introduced for the first time this season, the Coca-Cola Star Search Award recognises the talented youngsters making their mark in League ranks.
To be eligible for the Award, nominees are required to meet the following criteria:
• players must have played no more than 8 State League games at the start of the 2007 season
• players must be aged 21 or under at January 1, 2007
• AFL rookies are eligible for the award unless promoted to the senior list of their AFL club
• Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the 2007 season are ineligible to win the award
Following each round of the home and away season, each competing club nominates one eligible player
from their team. A review panel then selects one player as the Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

The review panel consists of:
Glen Rosser (General Manager - State League Competition)
James Fantasia (General Manager – Game Development)
Daniel Thomas (SANFL Football Services Manager)
Brenton Phillips (SANFL Talent Manager)
Each weekly nominee receives a gift pack, compliments of Coca-Cola.
On the completion of the minor round, one of the 23 nominees will be chosen as the 2007 Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner. Voting will take place in the following ways:
1. Review panel choose a winner who is awarded $1500 - Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner
2. The public choose a winner by voting on the SANFL Website (winner awarded $500)
The Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner will be presented with a cheque for $1500 at the Magarey Medal Presentation Dinner.

He would have had mixed emotions on Saturday as Jesse ran riot, kicking two vital goals in the final quarter including the sealer. His goal in the third had to be seen to be believed as well. Well done Jesse. Let's hope we see him in red and blue for a while yet but given that there's not too many silky skilled, quick six foot four guys running around who can either play as an onballer or a key forward I doubt it.

Given the ease he adapted to league company you've got to wonder why he wasn't playing league before now.

Got to admit it as great to punch the air and shout 'Aishy' after his goals, only took me back about twenty five years! :D
