I cant agree that Macca did gutless things - any stuff in this category was typically face to face from Macca and more often than not opposition players would run away from him, no matter how big there were.
Whilst the contact made by Clayton was not grave, it was unnecessary. Dawes was 30m at least behind the play and Clayton's contact was made whilst Dawes was face down on the ground and just climbing to all fours before contemplating his ability to stand up. Hence, he was not (nor should he have been) expecting anyone (other than a trainer maybe) in his area and certainly did not see it coming. The reason Clayton got caught was because the northern field umpire was watching Dawes on the ground after the ball had travelled south along the western wing into an area being monitored by the central umpire.
Forget the past or open up a new room such would be the volume of possible threads and comments. It was a cheap act, unnecessary and indefensible.
