PORT ADELAIDE MAGPIES’ BRADLEY EBERT WINS ROUND 8 COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION
Bradley Ebert from the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club has been named the Round Eight Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.
In his debut League appearance, 17 year old Ebert displayed maturity beyond his years in the Magpies’ match against traditional rivals Norwood at Alberton on Saturday. Ebert was named in Port’s best in a week that saw him progress from school football, for St Michael’s College, to State League Football.
Starting on the interchange bench, Bradley came on in the second quarter to make an impressive start to his SANFL career with a promising game across half-back. Ebert accumulated 15 possessions, including 11 kicks, 4 handballs and 4 tackles and provided valuable rebound out of the Magpies’ defence.
Bradley, son of former Magpies’ League footballer Craig Ebert, was one of four South Australians to tour South Africa with the AIS/AFL Academy in April this year. A current member of South Australia’s under-18 squad, Bradley will be hoping his performance on Saturday was noted by selectors of the team to compete at the U18 National Championships in July.

Should read "former Magpies and West Adelaide league footballer Craig Ebert".

Im not surprised the lad picked up the award ... Had a very good debut and has the size and attributes of a footballer heading toward a higher level.

One game isn't enough to judge his abilities, but Im pretty sure we'll be hearing a lot more about him over the years

Port are doing pretty well with this rising star award. Is that Summerton, Greenwood and now Ebert with nominations so far? Obviously some talent coming through Alberton. Would Port supporters expect the Power to try and draft these lads or is it now just a case of getting the best available from anywhere in Australia. I would have thought getting some real Port players in their AFL team might help with carrying that Port tradition through to the next generation???

Just on Brad Ebert, does he qualify for either of the SA based AFL teams under Father/Son?

I heard a rumour the SANFL where going to give a commemerative star search nomination award to Gavin Colville. Apparently the poor little guy never had a chance when he was younger.

Craig fell 78 games short for Brad to qualify for the Power (200 at the Magpies). Though West is a Power F/S club as well, it had to be 200 at the one club.

The kid has a serious amount of talent and hes been spoken about for a couple of years now in terms of a big AFL prospect.

Last year he won the SA MVP for best player in the AFL U16 Championships. This taken from the AFL prospectus:

"Ebert, the nephew of Port Adelaide Magpie legend Russell, poduced huge numbers in all three games at the 2006 NAB AFL Under 16 Championships, leading his state in disposals with 93. He led the carnival in long kicks with 33 and also ranked equal second at inside 50s with 24. He had at least 29 disposals in all games, however he turned the ball over nine times by foot, the most of any division one player."

Hes being talked up as a top 10 draft pick this year, so if he has a good U18 champs this year and can play a few more league matches, he could be a top draft pick and the top SA draft pick this year.

If hes available at Ports first pick they would definately pick him up. I cant see the Crows over looking him either.

Poulton and Brett Ebert are the last two Magpies players the Power has drafted.

Would love to have either Brad or Levi at the Power next year. I think Levi is a big chance at going fairly high in the draft as well. if he has a good championships then he could be a real bolter up the draft table. Summerton, Im still not convinced hes AFL quality due to queries over size and speed.

But his smarts make up for it. Look at Roger James, wasn't really tall, was kinda slow, but was very smart.

I would love to see Greenwood, Ebert, and Summerton get picked up by the Power.
