CENTRAL DISTRICT’S DANIEL HAVELBERG WINS ROUND 9 COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION
Daniel Havelberg from the Central District Football Club has been named the Round Nine Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.
After making his League debut in the opening round of the season, 19 year old Havelberg has gone on to play five matches for the undefeated Bulldogs. Daniel’s impressive performance in Central District’s victory over West Adelaide at Berri on Saturday saw him named in the Bulldogs’ best.
Daniel’s versatility has seen him play at both ends of the ground this season with a high level of consistency. Playing at centre half back on Saturday, Daniel gathered 19 possessions, including 13 kicks, 6 handballs and 7 marks and kicked one goal.
A current Under 20 State Squad member, Daniel was recruited to Central District’s Under 17s from the Willaston Football Club. A talented tennis player, Daniel played Division One (Senior Mens) for the Modbury Tennis Club and represented South Australia in the U15 Ambassadors Cup.
Introduced for the first time this season, the Coca-Cola Star Search Award recognises the talented youngsters making their mark in League ranks.

To be eligible for the Award, nominees are required to meet the following criteria:
• players must have played no more than 8 State League games at the start of the 2007 season
• players must be aged 21 or under at January 1, 2007
• AFL rookies are eligible for the award unless promoted to the senior list of their AFL club
• Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the 2007 season are ineligible to win the award

Following each round of the home and away season, each competing club nominates one eligible player
from their team. A review panel then selects one player as the Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.
The review panel consists of:
Glen Rosser (General Manager - State League Competition)
James Fantasia (General Manager – Game Development)
Daniel Thomas (SANFL Football Services Manager)
Brenton Phillips (SANFL Talent Manager)
Each weekly nominee receives a gift pack, compliments of Coca-Cola.
On the completion of the minor round, one of the 23 nominees will be chosen as the 2007 Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner. Voting will take place in the following ways:
1. Review panel choose a winner who is awarded $1500 - Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner
2. The public choose a winner by voting on the SANFL Website (winner awarded $500)
The Coca-Cola Star Search Award Winner will be presented with a cheque for $1500 at the Magarey Medal Presentation Dinner.

Well done Havelberg, interestingly though many Central supporters thought he was a real surprise selection in Round 1, he had played in the magoos the previous two years and wasnt an overly brilliant performer who never really settled in at either end of the ground. He played alright early on but had glanduar fever and missed 2 weeks but was rushed back into the squad suprisingly again.

Roy has shown lots of faith in this lad and obviously rates him highly, which Daniel has repayed him, starring at different ends of the ground over the last two weeks. I hate to bring up the AFL but he reminds me alot of Adam Hunter for the wc eagles and he will be used in that swing man role for the rest of the year me thinks.

In saying that he will have to keep performing at a high level as once Quinno Graham is fit i think they will be fighting for the one position.
