Ex Eagle passes away #16

Postby schimma » Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:40 am

FORMER West Torrens and Brisbane Bears footballer Troy Clarke has died, aged just 44.
The Brisbane Lions released a statement informing of Clarke's passing on Monday but did not provide a reason.

Clarke joined the Eagles in 1987 and made 64 appearances in his four seasons at Thebarton, mostly playing on the wing.

He was named in the SANFL team of the year in 1989 and two years later returned to Queensland after signing with the Bears.

In 1991, he was a member of the Bears' reserves premiership side and represented Queensland in a State of Origin game against Victoria.

Clarke played 68 AFL games with the Bears before retiring in 1996. Since 2011, Clarke has been the state development manager in Queensland.

RIP #16
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Very sad. I remember watching him play for the Eagles when I was a kid. An explanation in The Age - goes to show how delicate life can be.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/a ... 2we8x.html

"On Monday night, Clarke had a social kick around in an AFL 9s game - a touch football version of Australian rules - and was driving home from Brisbane to the Gold Coast when he was understood to have complained of a severe headache and pulled over at a service station for a drink. He passed away that night."

I normally don't post on Vale threads, however a mate of a mate of mine was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 47 and has been given 2-5 years. Essentially there is not much they can do for him.

I've been wondering what's worse, knowing what's happening, or have it happen like Troy Clarke.

Either way, sh1t that it happens to "good" people. 44 or 47, either way, it's way way way too early!

Was listening to tab-radio b/fast show the other morning and Richard Champion spoke about Clarke. He was pretty cut up about it. Popular bloke by the sounds of it.
