I'd hate to be near the siren when it blows.

A few thoughts re sanfl clubs and how to remain 'relevant'

1. Service the members you already have. For example I paid my (sturt) membership in early Dec 05 now in mid Feb 06 not a word/e-mail/call from the club. OK just saw sign on club sight that says member packs out week commencing Feb 18th.
2. Free junior membership.
3. Players to visit schools and hand out free tickets, a first impression to a 6/7/8/9/10 year old can last a lifetime. (I know its free anyway for under 18's).
4. Sell the concept that sub-elite = best quality 'real' sporting contest (this goes for all sports). Elite sport now 'a business' and hey who wants to invest so much emotional energy in a business? I'll reserve my loyalties for a real sporting club. The are a huge amount of folk disolusioned with the commercialisation of our sport/culture, let the backlash begin!
5. Sting the crows for more. After all they are sanfl 'property'
6. The sat pm game at Centrals round 1 is a great idea. More nignt games, when you go take a 'non beleaver' with you.
7. Run your merchandise operations properly.
8. Invite other sanfl club members to a social at least once per year. Could be a quiz night/games night/stories, rummors and ledgends typa stuff. Great fun, plenty $'s.
9. Give some insentive to members to 'sign up' new members. We should all be recruters of new members anway but this might help.
10. All sanfl members to be active lobbiests (radio talk back/local pollies/letters to editors etc etc).
Any more?
