Even as a Dogs fan I'm almost agreeing with you. It was so cold and the football seemed lacklustre, it was really hard to concentrate and get into the game. At least we came away with the victory, which made braving the cold worth it.

No consolation, but it was 9 points better than what you (and I) expected.

No consolation in that at all spelly. I was pleased with our endeavour, we had a red hot go and that's all you can ask of the young kids. Our injury list is taking it's toll and the loss of quality players like Westbrook, Potter and Skipworth hasn't helped either. Having said that quality sides are able to cover those losses. Oh well I guess there's always next week and the trip to Alberton.

WTF was the deal with Inkster? Hobbled off at the 25 second mark of the first quarter never to return. And it would have been quicker if he didn't have to come from the other side of the oval and if he could see where he was going.

Next time we play a night match at Elizabeth, I'm staying home with the Mrs and watching Bridget Jones Diary 1 & 2.

For an oval that is pretty identical in size to Woodville Oval, are you criticising your own club's oval too? Football Park also has pretty similar dimensions btw.
Inkster did his hammy. Please try and have sympathy for your own players who get injured. Also, can he control where he gets injured? Will tell him next time to make sure he gets injured near the interchange gate, just for you.
Great support of the SANFL if you put watching a 'chick flick' ahead of watching your team. Is that why the Eagles have an extremely low supporter base?
Cheers.

I know where Aerie was going on this one. It's not that the ground itself is too big. It's the fact the lights aren't adequate enough to cover the oval mores the point. I would think at least another 2 towers would do the trick.

Underage results.
U17s
Eagles 5.2 8.5 8.9 11.13.79
Central 1.1 3.3 8.7 12.12.84
Umpire was one Richard Williams.
Should have won this game, looking where Central U17 team is.
Central were about 4 goals up and we kicked the last 3 goals and nearly won it when we took a mark with a few seconds to go, then played on.

U19s
Eagles 1.1 1.2 3.5 5.9.39
Central 4.2 7.2 10.3 13.6.84

Correct! Thanks for your input.

bulldogproud wrote:Aerie, if as you say 'The Eagles weren't that bad and Central weren't that good' why did Central double the Eagles score? Should they have quadrupled it if they had played well? As for the cold, how can you blame Central for that? Does the club now have to control the weather too??
Cheers.

Absolutely they would have quadrupled it if they played well. Central looked to just be cruising most of the night. Maybe 5 minutes of getting close to their potential each quarter and that was enough to wipe the Eagles, who didn't play that badly (i.e. the Semi Final last year). Goes to show the difference between the sides at the moment. I would have thought more a complement to Central than a criticism?

No blaming Central for the cold - although, why schedule a night match at this time of year?

The lighting was not good enough for the oval size. You could see each light tower reach out to where the '50' was painted and then darkness after that through the centre square and up forward through the middle. Brilliant for training standard, but not up to scratch for watching league football. And, Elizabeth is quite a bit bigger than Woodville and Footy Park when you take into account the length and width.

I have sympathy for Inkster. I thought he must have brought the injury in to the game. I thought he did his knee again and was frustrated it reduced the team to 20 men. Why play him? He hurt his knee 5 minutes in to his comeback in the reserves a month or so ago. Turns out it was a hammy. Obviously just unlucky - similar to Colville.

I was taking the piss out of myself regarding watching a chick-flick. People can go on about the low-supporter base of the Eagles - but not many supporter groups have gone through what we have had to go through. Those that are still there are as loyal as any.

What was the actual crowd in the end?

We are in trouble with our depth - injuries, loss of second-tier triers such as Westbrook, Potter and Shattock (even though I didn't have much time for him), as well as fringe players who could now be taking their chances - ie Coles, Spencer, Stacey - it is these types of players Centrals have been able to hold on to if they thought they were valuable to replace some of their bigger stars that have moved on.

But, this just presents a different type of opportunity and challenge with a different type of game plan, and perhaps attitude, required. Why not go out and just play, without rules, restrictions, etc, be more physical, get the younger players to understand the opportunity they are being given. Look at Collingwood last night (and before I get howled down, I live in the country so couldn't go last night!!)

Crowd was 3827.

As for why it was played last night, this originally was a Saturday game, but the SANFL moved it to Saturday night so there could be 4 stand alone games this weekend when there's no AFL action.

Man it was cold last night, still shivering when I got home - and that was with the heater full pelt all the way home!

As for the lights, ideally an extra 2 towers would make the lighting better, but the current set up isn't too bad.

Be interesting to see how many we get against South under lights later this year.

Based on current form, in normal circumstances the crowd should be near 10 000 for the night game against Sturt, it's up against a Crows game at AAMI - be interesting on how that impacts the numbers for this game?
