A statistical analysis of when a team wins by 158 points

For those interested, thought I'd share the numbers I collated from the Centrals-Norwood game ... obviously they're not official. The 'official' Advertiser stats had 40 less disposals for Centrals so they weren't even credited with making 400 disposals (like the ABC did with 413). Anyway:

Kicks: 255-164 (Eff 77%-66%)
Handballs: 176-120 (Eff 88%-89%)
Disposals: 431-284 (Eff 81%-76%)
Cont Poss: 149-91

Cont Marks: 15-11
Marks: 112-75
Marks from Opp Kick: 12-9 (8-6 uncontested)
Hardball Gets: 54-30
Looseball Gets: 62-37

Rebound 50s: 27-28
Centre Breaks: 30-8
Ball Up Clear: 8-8
Throw In Clear: 10-10
Clearances: 48-26
Hit Outs: 44-33

In the last quarter, Centrals went inside 50 on 20 occasions for 11.1. They also had a staggering 19 clearances from 22 hit outs in that term alone, to Norwood's four hit outs and five clearances.

Centrals had 100 or more disposals in every quarter bar the first, where they had 99. They had 105, 116 and 111 in the second, third and fourth stanzas. The Legs had 76, 76, 74 and 58 over the four terms.

Norwood only had 14 contested possessions in the final quarter. AFL/SANFL league teams average roughly 25-30 per quarter.

So there you go ... orgasmic!

I thought they were interesting ... I know there wouldn't be anyway of knowing this, but I'd also love to know the collective km's covered by the two teams on the day.

Poor workrate for the Legs is an area that has been glossed over, as we're not a team that can rely on skills being executed without error.

Those stats are interesting - they're a look behind the scoreboard result.

And those are the stats Norwood's coaching staff will be looking at to try and figure out what the hell went wrong.

Top work, Scott! Some of those stats are more detailed than what we record at Glenelg.

I think we are going to have to lift our game to keep up with the likes of you and Spelly!

Disappointing that the Advertiser once again missed so many stats, but we are getting used to that by now.

I think those statistics don't reveal hell of a lot.
If a team loses by 158 points it's fair to say they got a smashing in all statistical areas, other than clangers.
