SANFL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

At tonight’s Annual General Meeting of the South Australian National Football League sitting Commissioner Mr Phillip Gallagher was reappointed and Mr Brian Cunningham was elected to join the SANFL Commission following the retirement of Commissioner Mr Nerio Ferraro. Both appointments are for a 3 year term.

2005 Year in Review
Attendances & TV Viewing
• In excess of 300,000 fans attended SANFL matches throughout the 2005 season.
• Two million viewers tunned into the ABC television broadcasts of SANFL matches.
State Clash
• West End State Team defeated Victoria at Teac Oval (20-8 to 18-18) on 21st May 2005.
SANFL 200 Club
Congratulations to 2005 SANFL 200 Club inductees:

SANFL President Mr Rod Payze presented all inductees with their certificates and ties, at the annual dinner held in September 2005.
Bob Quinn Medallist
• Luke Powell from the Eagles was winner of the Bob Quinn Medal, for his best afield efforts on the day.

Under 18 Championships
• Four South Australians were selected in the prestigious All Australian side – Shannon Hurn (Central District), Darren Pfeiffer (Norwood), Jace Bode (Sturt) and Cleve Hughes (Norwood).
• Results reflected continued success of the Under 18 Academy, now in its 5th year.

Under 16 Championships
• The Under 16 National Championships were played in Queensland during July.
• Five South Australian players were selected in the AIS/AFL Academy – Mark Austin (Glenelg),
Bryce Gibbs (Glenelg), James Sellar (Glenelg), Chris Schmidt (West Adelaide) and Zac Millar (North Adelaide).

South Australian Football Hall of Fame
Eight South Australian Football greats were recognised as new inductees into the 2005 West End South Australian Football Hall of Fame. These eight new inductees join an elite group of 134 legends.

Magarey Medal
The South Australian National Football League named Jeremy Clayton, from the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club, as the 2005 Magarey Medallist. Channel Nine once again provided the live telecast of this year’s medal count.
Congratulations are also extended to:
• Ken Farmer Medal (Sir James Leading Goalkicker) – Daniel Schell (Central District)
• Reserves Magarey Medal – Mark Demasi (South Adelaide)
• Under 19’s Tomkins Medal – Blake Wegener & Glenn Dundovic (West Adelaide)
• Under 17’s McCallum Medal – Lindsay Thomas (Port Adelaide) & James Boyd (South Adelaide)

‘be active’ Player of the Year and R.O. Shearman Medallist
Port Adelaide Magpies Jeremy Clayton was the 2005 ‘be active’ Star Player of the Year and R.O. Shearman Medal winner. The Magpies ball magnet finished on 40 votes, eight votes clear of nearest rival Norwood’s Scott Borlace. Judged by members of the SANFL 200 Club, Jeremy Clayton also received a cheque for $3000 to accompany the honour of this award.

Jack Oatey Medallist
Congratulations to 2005 Jack Oatey Medallist, Luke McCabe from the Central District Football Club who was awarded the medal for his best on ground performance in the SANFL ‘be active’ Grand Final.

Participation
2005 saw a number of fantastic results across all areas including:
• 15% increase in AFL Auskick participation
• 3.37% increase in Aussie Football participants
• 5.5% increase in Youth Football participants
• 18 players drafted to AFL Clubs
• 9 players Rookie Listed by AFL Clubs
• 541 Level 1 coaches and 32 level 2 coaches received accreditation
• 521 Umpires recruited and reached accreditation
• Exciting, entertaining and closely contested SANFL competition

Financial Performance
The League enjoyed an outstanding year with regard to its finances. Results for 2005 saw a distributable surplus of $4,467,617 compared to $4,372,990 in 2004.
SANFL Clubs received a core distribution totalling $3,600,000 ($400,000 per Club) compared to $3,528,000 ($392,000 per Club) in 2005. In addition to this, the League also paid grants, sponsorship and prize money to the Clubs totalling a further $985,660.

AFL Draft
Eighteen South Australian players were selected in the AFL National Draft in 2005. Shannon Hurn from Central District was SA’s highest selection at number thirteen. This is a fantastic result for the young upcoming South Australian talent. The outstanding football development programs in South Australia have assisted in creating the pathway for these fourteen players.

Just for interests sake... Was the annual payments back to the SANFL from the Crows and the other guys listed.

If so how much and is there a cumulative total for both teams available?

Currently the Crows give back $450,000 annually, the Power $220,000 annually.
Despite being a set figure it wasn't always that way in the past so I wouldn't know what the cumulative total would be.
