Joe Pedler

Postby Macca19 » Sat Jul 14, 2007 12:29 am

Just flipping through an old Magpies Annual Report and saw a Joseph Pedler as the Under 19s Vice Captain. Looks quite a fair bit like him. Does an Eagles nut know if this indeed is the same one, and how he ended up at the Eagles?

Yep, definitely played his juniors for Port. Not sure why he crossed to the Eagles. Whether he wasn't getting an opportunity? Another is Jared Petrenko who couldn't get a decent run with the Port juniors, but is now on the verge of AFL or will be a top class SANFL player for the Eagles.

Then there are players like Ivens, Todd Davey and that other Norwood player who recently retired with about 200 games (sorry, can't think of his name at the moment) who started with Eagles, but didn't get an opportunity so switched clubs and had/are having successful careers at league level.

Did Ivens ever play juniors for the Eagles?
I just thought he came from an Eagles area, his family is red and white through and through.

I'm not sure if he actually played. But he did try out and got cut. Is from Maitland I think. There was a write up in the budget earlier this year about it.

Yeah he's definately from Maitland, I'll ask him what the full story was next time I catch up with him.

Aerie, The other player you are thinking of is Troy Clements, a very good player for Norwood and a 97 premiership player.

Yes, my apologies. That is the one. It's really a good thing that all these players go on to have good careers after having a set back early on. Shows some determination and persistence and some belief in yourself to be able to make a move and become a success.

Pedler was U19s Vice Captain and won Best Club Man in the 1997 awards.

Isnt in the 1998 Annual Report at all so must have changed over in the 98 pre season.

Also someone else I noticed was Brian Harris in the 97 and 98 Magpies U17s. Brian Harris being the Western Bulldogs Full Back. He obviously swapped over at some point as well.

He played with some decent juniors in those two seasons. Heath James, Troy Broadbridge, Aaron Fiora, Luke Taylor, Shaun Burgoyne, Cain Ackland, Alan Didak, Marcus Pickett, Matthew Lokan and Corey Enright all made an AFL List.

Macca Peddler is one of those Port juniors that moved to the Eagles just like Rugolo .
You mentioned Corey Enright pity he didn't follow his dad to the eagles.

Is Joe Pedler signed for WWT for next season? Have heard he may be playing somewhere outside of the SANFL next year.

Another past player of the Eagles that ended up playing 100 plus games for Norwood is Scott Carslake
