Interesting WAFL League result on the weekend

Postby scott » Mon Jul 23, 2007 3:41 pm

Perth 4.19 (43)
South Fremantle 6.10 (46)

That isn't overly strange in itself, but consider at quarter time the scores were:

Perth 0.13 (13)
South Fremantle 0.0 (0)

This surely would have eclipsed some kind of record.

Not sure what the weather was like in Perth on Saturday but it must not have been that bad citing the other results of the round (13.17 to 15.15, 8.15 to 8.13 and 13.17 to 15.15 in the match at Port Hedland). And interestingly as well, all the margins in the four WAFL matches this round were under two goals - two-, three-, five- and 10-point differences.

Perth will be spewing at those missed goals, most of those points were golden opportunites for goals.......the game could have been all over

There was 7.19 kicked to one end and 3.10 kicked to the other (4.15 to 1.1 in the first half), so you'd think wind would have been a pretty big factor.

Scott

There was rain in the Perth area until about 2pm and there was a strong breeze heading eastwards all afternoon. Lathlain is one of a few grounds that runs east-west so there would have been some effect on the game.

I was at East Fremantle's game but I am sure Perth had the gale in the first quarter. The scoreboard has around the ground scores there and we saw "SF" remain blank as "P" went from 4 to 8 to 11 to 13 - we all knew that there was something going on there.

Quarter Time
Perth 0-8 8
South Frem 0-0 0

It took the fourteenth shot at goal by the Demons to score a bullseye.

Half Time
South Frem 4-2 26
Perth 1-14 20

They are suffering big time at Lathlain.

BTW, the final score was actually 6-11 47 to 4-19 43 ... there must have been a premonition only around 1000 people were there.

The weather was garbage all weekend.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

What's the word on Eastaugh as a coach?
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

Having just read...

...I think I've had that question well and truly answered.

It's a cracking thread btw with a level of personal abuse towards a coach not seen too often outside of The Roost.

Geez after reading how bleak the outlook is for Perth it makes me realise there are more painful teams to follow than the bays.... ;-)

Sounds like there are 50 people at the game and everyone knows everyone

His column in the local Gazette has been of a "ho-hum, we're not as good as them" defeatist attitude all season long without blaming anything else bar inexperience or concentration lapses ... but that could be the ghost writer.

They probably now have the lowest level of support, especially of the "floating voter" variety. There has been a pessimistic view of the demons from the (two) Perth supporters at work ... and they are both females. Two out of 35 is a pretty low ratio, especially when all bar two or three will pledge an allegiance to a club.

In order of popularity, they follow Subiaco, Claremont, East Perth, East Fremantle, South Fremantle, West Perth, Swans, then Perth and no-one supports Peel Thunder.

Can't wait to have another crack at North or it's supporters can you topsy? Have you read the Nwd forum - you lot are hardly behind your coach, whoops sorry you would be this week because you are "world beaters" after managing to beat South.
