Great work once again Scott. :D I thought you might be interested how some of them compare to what we recorded - we don't go into as much detail on the team stats as you do though! Most of the differences would probably come down to interpretation. By the way, I had a chat to Chris Kendall (ABC Statistician) at half time and his stats were very similar to what we had at that time. The main difference is that we had more handballs - I think we tend to count more of the little ones coming out of packs than both you and Chris do.
scott wrote:Kicks: 202 - 171 (Eff: 78% - 68%)
We had 205-170.
Handballs: 141 - 125 (Eff: 95% - 86%)
We had 148-143.
Marks: 96 - 87
We had the same: 96 - 87 :!:
Inside 50s: 61 - 39
We had 65-39
Clearances: 48 - 35
We had 49 - 34
Hit Outs: 34 - 50
We had 43-46. This can be very hard to tell though...
Spoils: 13 - 20
We had 17 for Glenelg
Smothers: 2 - 5
We had 3 for Glenelg
Shepherds: 5 - 5
We had 46 for Glenelg (very hard for you to tell this on the TV though!)
Free Kicks: 20 - 11
25/50m Pen: 3 - 0
Kicks OOF: 2 - 4
Putting these together we had 25-12
Glenelg had 10 inside 50s to 3 at one stage, yet trailed 3.0 to 0.1
Yep, we were getting all excited (in the way that nerdy stats people do  ) over this stat too! I think I noticed that it was 10-2 when the score was 2 goals to nil!

Hehe nice work with the comparisons Ecky! And thanks for posting those, it's always interesting to compare. Glad to see most of our stats are fairly close, which probably suggests our interpretations are pretty close for most areas (excluding handballs - although, I do count handballs in and around packs, unless they're absolutely nothing handballs that don't leave the pack or are so useless that life would survive without them). ABC showing replays when the game is underway sometimes doesn't help either. Nowhere near as bad here compared to when I've done WAFL matches. And taking a stab in the dark, but I think our shepherds interpretations may vary slightly. 8)

Thanks again Scott.

1 stat which i was interested in was goals from 0-15 out. 5-1 the bays way. been a problem for south in recent weeks. Far too many 'soft' goals coming from goal square contests etc.

Seems like we did ok in the 1%ers though, which is pleasing. Just too many errors though!

Over the past three weeks, we've conceded 12 25-metre penalties and only received one. Bit of disciplinary problems there. And getting it into our forward line just isn't happening enough - only 109 times in the past three matches as opposed to Sturt/Norwood/Glenelg's 191.

And FYI: I incorrectly stated I recorded south for 125 handballs, when it was actually 146 ... 125 was their effective handballs total (Glenelg had 120 by my count FTR). Apologies to those who had their day affected by this.

i dont think that it is the interpretation that causes the discrepency just moreso the fact that most sheperds ocur out of teh sight of teh tv screen so you wouldnt see them, we have the same problem with our reserves stats where the sheperds are always way down as we only have one caller in the reserves whereas in the league we have soemone specificlly watching for all the 1%ers

The most obvious stuffups were the Advertiser:
 missing 7 of Button's kicks
 missing 6 of Panozzo's kicks
 missing 6 of Dougie's possessions (hopefully this means the Crows won't want him back )
 somehow giving Sherwood 4 more marks!

Whoever does the South stats for the Advertiser is obviously more competent - most of the other differences can be put down to differences in interpretation.

This is why the team comparisons Phil puts out are unfortunately not very meaningful - Glenelg is way down on possessions compared to the other teams because the Advertiser misses so many of our stats!

and missing 2 of Fisher's marks of 6 of his possessions. Maybe they got Fisher and Sherwood confused!

They must have changed their tune from last year. In the Glenelg v North match I did from late last season (and is on the history forum for those curious), the advertiser had nine more possessions for the Bays than me and 12 less for the Roosters. The mind boggles. 8)

Amazing they could miss so many of Button's and Panozzo's kicks, though.
