I find it strange that CLUBS decide what ball is used.
Shouldn't this be a league mandate?
I can't think of any other competitions anywhere in the world which
allows different brands of equipment to be used.

Maybe not during a match that a different brand is used, but there are a couple of different brands of cricket balls used in Test cricket. Dukes are used in England, while Kookaburra balls are used here.

I can't think of any other competitions anywhere in the world which
allows different brands of equipment to be used.

Agreed, I find it ridiculous that in this day and age we can have 2 footys in a game that have different characteristics.
I couldn't imagine it happening in any other sport at this level.

Sometimes in the first half they use a red ball (if the sun hasn't gone down enough) and in the second half, they use a yellow ball.

In cricket the home nation used to (possibly still does) have the right to select which balls get used (ie, the Poms prefered the softer Duke balls with a more pronounced seam). So you could play a test here with a Kookaburra and then your next game could be in England with a Duke. And of course the characteristics of the ball change with every delivery, until ultimatey at 80 overs they change it for a completely new one. In one-dayers they frequently change the ball as it gets discoloured and hard to see, and sometimes the ball is changed during tests before 80 overs - especially if it isn't swinging*, however they do use the same brand for each game...

Yeah but my point is they don't chance completely different brands of cricket ball 4 times throughout an innings.
