Colville Testimonial Night

Postby cd » Sun Aug 12, 2007 12:56 am

Tonight was just a top night at the club. A full room upstairs at Oval Ave which has been Gavin's home for 13 years since we recruited him from the Geelong Falcons.

Ben Hook was a great MC with video highlights of a wonderful career so far of one of our favourite sons.

Great stories told tonight but most of all the respect and high esteem Gavin is held in by his coaches and past and current team-mates shone through.

To have family, friends, playing mates, officials and supporters all come together after a great win today to honour a real champion has made today very special for eagles fans.

Now to focus on next week at Woodville - a special day again with it being our Charity day where through Hills Industries and Vili's we support Ronald McDonald House - check out details in Eagle news #7 thread.

Never let anyone say footy clubs arent important as nights like we held tonight at Oval Ave really show the true quality of wonderful role models that champions like Gavin can be.

And he deserves every accolade he gets. The decision he made to omit himself out of last years Grand Final shows the kind of person he is, both on and off the field.

Spelly
His decision re the GF last year was an important part of the night too and you are 100% correct.

Gavin spoke of his individual hurt but also of his great pride in the club and the 2006 Premiership team. It was a very moving part of the night.
Also his sharing of his feelings as a losing captain addressing the pemiership winners (Centrals) was truly inspirational for all in attendance tonight.

I am really honoured and so privileged to be part of the WWTFC and to be able to call Gavin Colville a mate.

And Gav's lovely wife Emily can really tell some stories about Him!!!

Good to hear, cd. It sure looks like the playing group are playing for each other from the outside and it was great to see both reserves and league play so well on Colville's big day. It would not surprise me to see a Gavin Colville Port bottle in the future to go with the other Life Governers of the club, such is his standing.
