Eagle's Finals Team Composition

Postby ferret » Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:46 pm

The Eagles are going to have to make some hard decisions about their forward and defence set ups for the finals. Where does Schwarze play? Where does Passador play? Who makes up the talls in the defence.
I think a decision has to be made quickly so the combinations can get used to each other. I would like to see Schwarze play CHB and Grocke, Salter and Passador play up forward. Does Joe P. still get a game? What happens if McGregor is available for the finals.....is here likely to play in defence or attack. One thing I believe is that both Schwarze and Passador can't play up forward.
Will McKenzie be played in defence or on the ball? No doubt these questions will unfold in the next few weeks.

For what its worth, I think the following team is our 'A' Team:

FF LOMAS SCHWARZE INKSTER
HF PASSADOR GROCKE VINCE
C TREEBY CICOLELLA JARRAD
HB P. FIACCHI McKENZIE POWELL
FB REDDEN HIER J. STEWART

RUCK LINDSAY COLVILLE COOPER

INT DABROWSKI P.STEWART GUIFFREDA

If the COWS don't allow Vince to play, then I'd pick either Symonds (has been out of form) or Pavlich (preferred option) as the other forward line player.

I pick P. Stewart on the bench ahead of Joe Pedlar because I think he's more adaptable & quicker.
Guifredda I think has had a fantastic season & if Grokes not performing, Macca to CHF & Patty to CHB.

This side IS as good as any in the comp on their day & really only 1 day counts (1st weekend in OCT.)

If Salter is fit, replace P. Stewart because Nick can play Forward or Back

Ferret I think the EAGLES forward line becomes unsettled with kenny and Schwarze both playing there. And I was like LEH and thought about playing passador on a flank but he showed on Saturday he can only play at FF .And I think inkster should be playing in a forward pocket and if Schwarze is ff inkster should be camped at his feet.
Mckenzie looks so much better down back .
Will have to wait and see what unfolds .

The options are certainly there. I think it depends a lot on form. Salter, Grocke and Cooper would be the three that would come back in to the side when fully fit, without a doubt. Salter has the flexibility to play at CHB if Schwarze is in good form. If not, Pedler would come in to the side and Salter would move forward with Passador to the goal square. I wouldn't mind seeing Schwarze have a run at CHB in the next couple of weeks to see how he goes now Passador is back.

I reckon Vince will play finals for us. He has played most games and I'd think the Crows would think a finals series would be good for his development. I'd be surprised if McGregor will play. I'd like him to, but I doubt it so I'll leave him out. My best side...

F: Passador Schwarze Inkster
HF: Symmons Grocke Cicolella
C: Jarrad Powell Treeby
HB: Colville Salter McKenzie
B: P Fiacchi Hier J Stewart
R: Lindsay Vince Lomas
I: Fairclough Dabrowski Cooper

There is plenty of depth with Pedler, Redden, Giuffreda, Klun, Petrenko, Duncan, P Stewart, Fitzgerald, Rugolo all out of my side.

Unfortunately the unoffical sites with forums were hacked and the forums had to be closed down as a result.

Ferret...I believe your best Eagles team for the finals is spot on. It has been difficult for us to get this type of combination together throughout the year but this selection offers a lot more run out of defence. Yes Schwarze to CHB is a brave move but he is capable of really making an impact here and McKenzie can play a defence / on ball role. This line up also provides us with the ultimate flexibility which we have lacked all year. I also believe that giving Inkster a match or two in the reserves will do more for him than rotating him off the bench...let him get leather poisoning and bring him back in. Well thought out Ferret.

No, not football talk just Eagles centric talk, where the only other poster (apart from Eagles supporters) is someone questioning why if I really cared about the potential ins and outs at North I'd visit The Roost, Sturt DB.org....

I susppose if this is all you have post away I'm just glad every other club has ther own supporters based website where we can debate our club issues/sides amongst ourselves....

I'm sure you don't really care about the likely ins and outs at Glenelg just like I'm not that fussed about the likely ins and outs at Oval avenue

Fair enough. Have been a couple of tries at Eagles forums, but they've never been popular. I like reading up on other clubs and would find it a lot easier if everything was just on this website. Would be good if there were club pages like bigfooty on this website.

I don't really see it as an issue. I'm with Aerie on this - I like to read discussion on other clubs re potential line-ups, thoughts etc.

It doesn't take long to scan through if your not that interested. The real iissue on topics on this forum are the type of threads that people like SP start with no real discussion point to go on with and are a repeat of similar topics posted almost weekly.
