Hmmm. It's kind of a shame that Chambers had to kick the ton today, given the crowd invasion.

How much better it would have been for it to happen next week at Adelaide Oval. Watching the over-zealous Adelaide Oval ground security having kittens while faced with a wave of blue invaders would have been worth the admission price alone!

Wouldn't have needed Weslo, I would have stood on the boundary and beaten the crapper out of any idiot that ran on the boundary, I hate sheep.
The challenge of a picket fence would have been too much for these brainless idiots to digest though.
Embaressment to the SANFL IMHO.
Morons.

Strewth, what did they do? Burn down a grandstand or something? Threaten people? Did anybody get harrassed?
Okay one of those questions was sarcastic, but I thought that running onto the ground after a player has kicked the ton was an Aussie Rules tradition. Fair enough if you don't agree with it Wedgie, but I think it is a stretch calling them all morons, brainless idiots etc.. etc.. I don't see the harm in it. I wasn't there, and didn't see it, so could you explain what it is about what they did that justifies the several abusive posts you have made about them?

Hows the guy at the end that puts his arm around Chambo and gets his mate to take a photo!!!!

No idea what the free kick was for, Rudolph didn't even touch him let alone hold him, a shame he didn't earn his 100th goal, puts a bit of a dampener on it.

After watching it Im even more embarassed as a SANFL fan watching the grown men that ran out, some idiots were carrrying on like they'd won the game and Chambers looked very unimpressed with the morons.
FFS you're behind in a crucial game to your team's chances and you look like idiots!!
And Soder WTF????
Im a big Soder fan but how big a tool did he look when Chambers didn't want to talk to him?
Stupidest thing Ive seen from a journo ever.

From tomorrow's Sunday Mail:

Sturt's gun spearhead needed five goals to become the first SANFL player to notch 100 majors since Port Adelaide's Scott Hodges in 1996. And while he achieved his feat in the dying minutes of the match, it was the Tigers who won the real prize, an important 34-point victory just one round out from the finals.
"It's a bit numb without the win," Chambers said after the match when asked how he felt. "The heat was taken out of it (the game) when I got it because it was a loss, that's why I feel a bit numb about it. They (Glenelg) definitely had the real win."

Chambers, who has now booted an accurate 100.32 for the season, was gifted his century when umpire Theron Philp paid a free kick against resolute Tiger defender Sam Rudolph for holding on to Chambers' jumper. The burly 27-year-old coolly went back and slotted his milestone goal from 20m out only to be swamped by hundreds of Sturt fans desperate to give their hero a pat on the back.

"I was a bit overwhelmed," Chambers said when his teammates, and the fans, came from all parts of the oval to congratulate him.

"It (the free kick) was definitely there and there could have been a couple more earlier too. It would have been nice to take a mark or something. Or at least get the win."

Sturt coach Rick Macgowan, who labelled the result "embarrassing", said the hype surrounding his star forward certainly had an impact on the outcome of the game.

"I'm very happy to get that out of the way," admitted Macgowan, who had just 19 fit men to work with after half-time.

"Even just himself, after he kicked it (100th), he seemed to move a lot more freely. He didn't lead as hard as what he had been but we were all the same. The midfielders didn't run hard enough and the defenders weren't tight enough."
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

Today was the 6th time a Sturt player has kicked 100 goals in a season and Chambo is the 5th Sturt player to do it.

1940 P.Morton 101
1973 K.Whelan 107
1974 K.Whelan 108
1983 R.Davies 151
1985 I.Wilmott 112
2007 B.Chambers 100*

5 more and they catch up to Ken Farmer!

I was also under that impression Smithy. I reckon he got about 120 odd that year, but it has been mentioned a couple of times now that he only got it the once. Could be a few leaks in the old brains?

Edit* Thanks Spelly. :D

According to the Media Guide last year, he had 98 goals in 1982 as well. But I've compiled the week by week tally since then and found he had actually 97.54. I haven't done a week by week tally for 1984 for the century goalkickers in that year, but in 1983 he kicked 151.69 in 25 matches.

Rick Davies in 1984 is like John Fidge in 1990, records say he kicked 100 but he didn't. The tally includes Escort Cup games.

Ah. Thanks for that, I will eventually get tallies done for each leading goalscorer (and other century goalkickers) like I have done in the summary of scores Chambers had kicked up until two rounds ago.
