Round 23 matches:
All Saturday, 1 September at 11:15am
West Adelaide v North Adelaide @ Richmond Oval
While West Adelaide will be desperate to clinch victory in an attempt to claw their way off the foot of the table and avoid the wooden spoon, the stakes are far more higher for North Adelaide, who sit in third and a win - with the help of Glenelg beating Sturt - will see them claim the minor premiership for the first time since 1997. The Roosters have had an up-and-down month heading into the finals, and while they have won their past two matches, this overshadowed a dreadful loss to Centrals after inaccuracy killed them in a thriller, while they were violated by Norwood to the tune of 106 points the week previous.
2007 clashes
Round 2: West Adelaide 8.17 (65) def. by North Adelaide 22.11 (143) at Richmond Oval
Round 14: North Adelaide 24.20 (164) def. West Adelaide 12.7 (79) at Prospect Oval
2007 leading goal-kickers
West: Nicholas Homburg, 23 goals in 15 matches, 16th overall, with a best of three against Sturt.
North: Johnny Boras, 78 goals in 13 matches (nine in two at U/19s), first overall, with a best of 11 against Central District.
Central District v Norwood @ Elizabeth Oval
While they sit in fourth, Norwood is still a slim chance at jumping into first position. Though, this would require a generous victory against Central District, while relying on Glenelg beating Sturt and West Adelaide beating North Adelaide. With that equation unlikely, a second-place finish for the Legs is still within the realms of possibility. Meanwhile, Central District could end up with the dreaded wooden spoon should West beat North and they fall to Norwood. While the Dogs have won five matches this season, the highest was nine points, with the remaining four being less than a kick. It has been a far-from-impressive season for the Dogs, quite contrary to their league team.
2007 clashes
Round 7: Central District 10.2 (62) def. by Norwood 19.14 (128) at Elizabeth Oval
Round 14: Norwood 16.11 (107) def. Central District 3.8 (26) at Norwood Oval
2007 leading goal-kickers
Norwood: Simon Muster, 44 goals in 16 matches, sixth overall, with a best of seven against Centrals.
Centrals: Ashley Fry, 20 goals in 19 matches, equal 20th overall, with a best of four against Port Magpies.
South Adelaide v Eagles @ Noarlunga Oval
This match has no bearing on finals, however, Woodville/West Torrens will be keen to snare a victory heading into finals, with only two points in their past three matches. South Adelaide has a chance to end an otherwise bleak season on a high, looking to extend their winning streak to four after they were sitting near the foot of the table with a 3-13 analysis at the conclusion of round 18.
2007 clashes
Round 1: Eagles 23.10 (148) def. South Adelaide 15.13 (103) at Woodville Oval
Round 9: South Adelaide 20.9 (129) def. Eagles 11.8 (74) at Noarlunga Oval
2007 leading goal-kickers
South: Ben Simounds, 40 goals in 14 matches, seventh overall, with a best of six against Glenelg.
Eagles: Michael Parker, 32 goals in 13 matches, 10th overall, with a best of six against Glenelg.
Sturt v Glenelg @ Unley Oval
Sturt jumped to the top of the ladder for the first time this season in round 21 and if they're to earn a rest in the first week of finals, they must beat Glenelg on Saturday without having to rely on other results. While the Double Blues (14-5) have been outstanding from the onset this year unlike the Tigers (6-13), their respective ladder positions don't illustrate how close this match should be. The Bays' recent form has been questionable, however, they did account for Sturt in their round two match this year. While Glenelg has lost their previous two matches this season by an average of 126 points, their college kids - that starred in the win against Sturt this season - return to the 21 with the independent schools competition finishing.
