Yesterday’s match was an opportunity for Ron Fuller and the coaching staff to fine tune a number of parts of the teams game prior to Round 1.
The early part of the match was a very scrappy affair with both sides making many skill errors and the ball spending a lot of the time in the midfield. The Eagles opened with the first goal of the game although it took 10 minutes of play to do so.
The pressure was constant from both sides causing a very close and tight affair. The Eagles going forward wasted a number of opportunities with both wayward kicking for goal and missing targets. The positive from this was the fact the boys continued to work hard to get the ball and make Centrals work extremely hard for every one of their possessions. Centrals held onto the lead at the half time break by three points.
Ron Fuller emphasised to his charges at the long break the need to be smarter when using the ball to ensure each time an Eagles player had the ball it would be given to another Eagle next. Throughout the third quarter it was evident the boys were working towards this goal.
The work ethic and fitness of the Eagles players really came to the fore in the last term as the team pilled on 5 goals to 1 and really turn it on. Jason Earl, Jon Floreani and Luke Jarrad were fantastic through the middle whilst Brad Coles continued to run hard from defence. It was David Westbrook who shone up forward and gave mark of the century a nudge with a screamer mid-way through the term. To give you an idea he was on top of Centrals ruckman's shoulders! The main thing was he finished with a goal and the team went on to win by 25 points.

The side now looks forward to next week for the final trial to continue fine tuning the game plan. It's back to Thebarton Oval where we take on Glenelg with the Reserves at 11.35am and the League at 2.20pm. It would be great to see a large crowd cheering the boys on at Thebby on Saturday.
