Stand Up and Take a Bow Glenelg

Postby Wedgie » Sun Sep 23, 2007 8:28 pm

When the Glenelg v Eagles game finished today I went out onto the oval to help organise our banner, when the Bays came off I was slightly amazed but not overly as I joined in when North, Central, Eagles and Glenelg fans all gave them a standing ovation off the ground.
Similar to North 4 years ago the Bays brought something to the Finals that we hadn't seen for a while and and earn't the respect of everyone.
Very unlucky to lose but oh so classy and an absolute delight to watch.
Stand up and take a bow Bays and thank you.

Well done Glenelg. You should be very proud of 2007. You gave it your all but it wasn't quite good enough on the day. Geeeeez you gave my Eagles a scare today.

Without wishing to sound ungrateful for the comments from everyone on here tonight who have said how we have brought something to the finals, been brave coming back from 1 and 6 etc and how we fought it out (it is appreciated and acknowledged).

However, I want MY club to go back to being hated and everyone else saying bloody Glenelg are always in the finals.

I don't want sympathy I want success. I hope our players are hurting for the lost opportunity from today.

The last 15 games mean didly squat if we don't go on with this next year.

Having said that I am proud of the boys for they way they continued to fight it out today, we kept persisting despite a finals hardened opposition and how we backed up our amtes with fierce tackling and selfless acts. We do that again for 20 games next year we will make the finals again excwpt this time we'll play in the later games.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Wedgie, as I stood on the hill after the game feeling shattered, I couldn't believe when the players grouped in the middle, and they then came toward the hill and clapped the supporters...
A fantastic gesture from the Glenelg playing group, when they would've been feeling low.
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

I was thinking that myself Tassie. Don't worry, if you're up there again next year everyone will start hating you again!

fingers crossed for next year, last time we made the finals we went straight back into free-fall for another 5-6 years, quality recruits are a must because regardless of the form shown by u/19's and reserves the old chesnut of "we're relying on our youngsters" normally leads to a disappointing season. will be on fighting for top 5 spots, Centrals, Eagles, North are always there, South have Jack who never misses the finals, and Norwood are about due to poach another quality forward from Glenelg, Port will spend big again on recruits, Sturt have plenty of young stars with 12 months of footy under their belt, and Westies appear to have signed a quality coach. Gee how are the bays gonna back up?

Tassie - it's not sympathy it's respect - Glenelg have earnt that respect due to their efforts this season.

Eagles continue to show that we cant be written off and if we make it to the GF then we have earned that right too just have Centrals already have.

My post refers to the fact that when a club such as mine makes a finals appearance, that they have to make the most of it ... we should and i expect to play finals next year but so do the supporters of 8 other clubs...keep kicking me while i'm down....pretend its the Eureka tavern on a saturday night.

The Eureka Tavern? Geez, what a shit-hole! Just be positive, not negative & it becomes infectious-a bit like V.D. really-and before you know it, everyone's pulling* in the same direction & things are going tickety-boo :)

Exactly, if the Tigers had come last or 2nd to last it would be sympathy, the 4 lots of supporters all stood as 1 simply out of respect.
Only team that North didn't beat and can't beat in 2007.
THAT'S RESPECT!!

I still hate Glenelg, just not as match as Centrals right now.

On a serious note, I was caught between hoping the Bays would win for something different and not wanting to play them next week if we lost to Centrals. But there were two great games today and all sides and their supporters should be commended.

Long live the SANFL.
