A philosophical reflection on the loss of a semifinal

A philosophical reflection on the loss of a semifinal - the safooty.net edition.

It beats the arse off of coming bottom.

Lucky to win last week. Unlucky to lose this week. That's footy; that's why we all love it.

Sincere congratulations to the Eagles. You play the game well, and have rightly been a thorn in Glenelg's side for some time. Your discipline is laudable and your skills commendable. You have been the (equal) benchmark of the comp for many years, and today's contest showed why. Good luck to you and yours in the remaining games.

I for one am not saddened by today's result. Both teams gave their all, and one of them had to lose. Since the start of June Glenelg has been giving its all and has only lost 3 times; today just happened to be one of those days. As a bloke who has missed nary a game since the last time Glenelg made the finals, this season has been a revelation, a watershed. I hope that the Bays can build on this and carry their form into next season, and indeed many seasons to come.

With every season of SANFL I grow more respectful of the other teams and their supporters. Our competition is a rare oasis in the desert of commercial sanitised organised sports. I love it not just for the camaraderie of the Bays fans, but also for the rivalry of all you other SANFL fans. Thanks to all who contribute here. Each of you in your own way has added a little bit of spice to what has been a relatively successful year from the Bays and for this I thank you all.

Game Over.

I can't explain it, but I'm sure I heard echos of Rodgers and Hammerstein after reading that bit.

Seriously though, in full, one of the best posts to ever appear on this site IMO. For one, my respect returned in kind.

Bays out, but not (the side nor the supporters) by any means disgraced.

i agree with those sentiments psuedo & i'll add we have no excuses we were beaten by a very good outfit in an intriguing battle, whoever won or lost was going to be lucky or unlucky which was the same last week
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
