Correct - Andrew was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in Paris while on his honeymoon - his wife survived the crash (I worked with her prior to the wedding). I can still remember the obituary colums she took out - 3 entire columns with a single message in the middle of them - such a tragedy for a very nice couple.

The fact that you think I've got NFI gives me a considerable degree of satisfaction.

I wonder if his dad had any help in deciding the most improved Goal umpire award... :-k :-k :-k
His dad is a good bloke though and has goal umpired enough to be able to teach Eddy how to do it right!!!

Mind you Eddy did show promise in his field umpiring the juniors at at NEMJFA and could have been a very good whistle blower...

I reckon the best umpires are in the terraces ..... Christ some people make me laugh. I often wonder if I am watching the same game.

If umpires didn't make mistakes, who the hell would we blame and who would we pick on \:D/

Sometimes I seriously wonder how some fans can enjoy the game when all they do is complain bitterly about the umpiring. I was at Norwood once and there was an elderly man in front of me who went off at everything. He seemed to genuinely think Norwood should have gotten a free in every contest, and was so angry that I was starting to worry he might have a heart attack. And from what I hear everyone in the dogs grandstand is just as bad!

Good call Tassie. Truth is IMO, the umps have a split second to make a call, and if we fans can't always agree with the benefit of slo-mo, it's no wonder the umps sometimes make a bum call.

(Cites: Howards report earlier this year against CD as evidence)

And now I'm going to cite your opinion of Howard's bump against CD when he got suspended as evidence that you have no idea. The rules clearly state that a bump from front on when a player has his head over the ball is a reportable offense, and this was duly reported, correctly, by the umpire in charge at the time.

IIRC there was one hell of a debate on whether Howards bump was full on or hip and shoulder. But like you say Graham, I have no idea

It was a bump from front on hitting a player who had his head over the ball. Doesn't matter whether it's full on or not. Them's the rules.

A bit like a best team man award, for someone that puts in all the time.

You both missed the point I was making. The reference was about umps making bum calls. My point was that an ump has only a split second to make a call, and even though we all have the advantage of action replys, dvd;s and slow motion, there are still debates over issues.

Graham, you don't have to be a cleverdick about it. By referring to the Howard incident I was citing the debate that followed rather than the tribunal outcome.
