Norwood’s Jackson Callow has received a three-match penalty for engaging in rough conduct with Central District’s Oliver Shaw during the first quarter at X Convenience Oval on Saturday.

Callow, who was referred directly to the SANFL Tribunal by the Match Review Panel, pleaded guilty to the charge.

It was graded by the Tribunal Panel as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact. The Panel – which was chaired by Ian White and included Angus Kurtze and Melanie Burton – then applied the base sanction of three matches to that classification.

Callow will miss the Redlegs’ matches against Woodville-West Torrens, Adelaide and West Adelaide before returning against North Adelaide in Round 18.

I would have added an extra game just for the tough guy taunt after the collision.

I think it was this act which prompted Doggie players to label it as a "Dog Act" immediately after the game.

I would have thought that a deliberate act with high contact would have resulted in at least 8 matches.

Exactly, it wasn't just careless it was deliberate. Shaw will be out for at least 3 weeks.

Wow. The SANFL have appealed against the Tribunal decision on Callows penalty saying it is "manifestly inadequate".
Can't recall this development happening previously.

Begs the question as to who makes up the Tribunal? Do they drink Red wine?

UPDATED – Wednesday July 16

SANFL has appealed the Tribunal Panel’s decision to suspend Norwood’s Jackson Callow for three matches for engaging in rough conduct with Central District’s Oliver Shaw in the first quarter on Saturday.

At a hearing to be conducted by Appeals Commissioner, The Hon. Michael David, KC on Thursday July 17 at 6pm, SANFL will appeal on the grounds that Callow’s three-match penalty was ”manifestly inadequate.”

Rightly so too, will probably get 5 or 6.

3 weeks no way. Cooper Murley, didn't even go off (very fortunate for Beau Thomas). Oliver Shaw was concussed and wont play for at least 3 weeks, if he can get back in to the side.

The only thing they can appeal on, I understand) is the classification of the charge as Intentional rather than careless. This would add a week to the suspension based on the tribunal guidelines.

Not sure if then Norwood have the right to either accept that (plead guilty) and take the four weeks or challenge it (not guilty) and risk five weeks.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

So if Callow had not bumped and chose to take a swing and connect by hand/arm
Does this mean he would get 2 week suspension instead of 4 ?
Anyway Callow gets the right suspension, Thomas a bit luckier to only get 2

Callow never bumped. He did a jumping forearm/elbow to the head, whilst looking at the player.
