Apparently 8 of 10 premiers have come through prelim final.
Sturt should start mad Monday at Cremorne early

Everything points towards Sturt, but this Glenelg team knows what it takes, has what it takes and continually displays what it takes when it really matters. Their two finals wins by a combined total of 3 points on the back of a premiership from the Elimination Final last year points to a club who has a habit of winning.

Then there is Marty Mattner and his Sturt team. Already a back to back premiership coach, he's rebuilt his team over 5 seasons to be firing on all cylinders in 2025, but he's had to endure a Grand Final loss and a straight sets Finals exit along the way. It's hard to see them letting this opportunity slip.

Possibly cold and some showers. I doubt that will keep too many of the supporters of either side away, so we should see a crowd well in excess of 30,000. I look forward to watching this years two best teams from the Cornes Deck.

I reckon Glenelg's only chance is to turn it into a shootout, especially now without Proud.
Sturt are going to kick their 15 goals regardless of what happens, which they did in the second semi without it feeling like they were scoring that many.
And Glenelg have only just got over lesser opposition without kicking many goals.
Try putting the pressure back on Sturt, may as well risk losing 25 goals to 13 whilst trying to win 20 goals to 18.

Sturt’s forward line still worries me and our midfield will have to be at their best with no Crowden, Battersby and Daiken to match Glenelg.
Just can’t write off Glenelg.

Not sure Battersby can be classed as an out when he has walked out of the club because the coach wont pick him.

I've been trying to shake off a nasty lurgy for a week now … might venture to training at Unley to shake as many hands as I can. :D

I hope it’s a beauty but I fear that we have softened them up for Sturt.
Quite a few Glenelg players looked absolutely spent at the end. I hope I’m wrong and it’s not a blowout

Apart from the qualifying final, which was wet as and low scoring was assured, the Bays have scored 8 goals in each of the 2nd-Semi and Prelim. Average for during the minor round was 101 points, so this team can score, and score big. Also have had an average of 66 points against, so the defence can stand up.

Yes, the Bays have had a tough finals journey, but are battle hardened and have won 7 of their last 8 finals. Of course they’ll look spent after a hard final, no point leaving something in the tank in a final.

Sure, Sturt have the best for and against in the comp, and have had a much easier run to the GF. They have won 3 of their last 7 finals, including losing 2 of the last 3 against that Bays.

The Bays were 18 points down at the 23 min mark of the last in the 2nd-semi, when McBean opted to not take an easy mark on the goal line which instead hit the post. That would have made it 12 points. Yep, Sturt kicked the next 4, but the point has been made.

Max Proud will be a huge loss, the guy is an absolute champion and was playing some of his best footy, but there’s a bloke called Jonty Scharenberg who lead the backline magnificently yesterday, a BoG effort.

Could the Bays be too battered up? Maybe, but they know how to win big finals when the going gets tough, whilst Sturt biggest effort was the 2nd-semi in the last 3 years.

There were glimpses in the 2nd semi when the Bays changed course to stifle the run of the Blues, especially after the first 10 mins, when it looked like the game could have already been lost.

Sturt have some finals scars that need to heal. They made brilliant headway in the 2nd Semi, but that means nothing if they fail on Sunday.

Perversely, despite being the dual Premiership team gunning for a 3rd in a row, the Bays are seemingly the massive underdog. Some think Sturt just need to turn up.

Will the Bays be able to win? Dunno, but I do know that if they apply enough hard pressure to the body, be aggressive and not hold back, it may create enough doubt to crack Sturt.

Pressure is an amazing thing, the Bays thrive in it … I guess we’re about to find out whether Sturt can do the same.

If they do, then congrats and well played, you deserve it.

This might end up like 1982
GL were a superb team, however they played a brutal Prelim Final v PA
GL players were in grave danger that day in a very physical encounter
GL 13-12
PA 14-5

GL were softened up and got smashed by the Mighty Redlegs in the GF
NW 20-13
GL 9-17

Several NW players then and later at re-unions have told members that they were so confident of beating GL in that GF , due to the PF match

There is no comparison between the 82 Prelim and yesterday.

82 was a war, yesterday was just 2 teams going hard at it.

In 82 the Bays didn’t know how to win GFs, coming off 4 loses, this year, gunning for 3 in a row.

I think Sturt will win comfortably enough, won’t be a huge margin but they’ll keep Glenelg at arms length all day

Need to study history a bit better, that’s all.

The Bays finished 4th in ‘82, so had to come from the Elim Final. They hadn’t beaten Port in a final for what seemed like a million years, and Port had won the last 3 flags. So the Bays played their GF that day.

There was thuggery that day that will live forever in infamy.

Then here’s the clincher, the Prelim was played on a Sunday, giving the Bays just 6 days to back up when the Legs has 13 days to freshen up.

Put all those things together, in addition to what I posted before, means that there is no comparison.

They’re a resilient group, these Tigers. 7 gone from last year’s flag side, losing 2 key defenders in the MSD, losing Parnell for the season & now Proud is out… They keep finding a way. The Qualifying Final in those conditions certainly took it out of them, the 2nd Semi & then yesterday’s Prelim have all been tough, physical battles. And Glenelg keep getting themselves up. This by far is their biggest test in some time. A dominant Sturt, first week of finals off, get through the 2nd semi, then another week off. There’ll be no excuses and all the pressure is on Sturt, best team all year, minor premiers, only lost 1 game, beat The Bays all 3 times, all the pressure is on the boys in blue.
If Glenelg somehow get up & make it 3 in a row, it will arguably be their finest hour…
