He was going to groom a successor over the next 2 years - Sampson or Torney were mentioned as possibles.
Squawk wrote:mighty_tiger_79 wrote:anyone hear jack on AA this arvo from 2pm................
sounds like things have turned around 180 degrees
Yeah I did. Sat listening for the full 40mins and found it very interesting. He came across as being very frank and no-nonsense. Interesting bits included
May not have much choice, it hasn't exactly been a sought after gig the last few years.
He has given Prendergast a rev up - said he looks happy and confident off field but doesn't take that on field - make his opponent worry about him. Thinks Prendergast is also good enough to play in the mid field.
Few opponents have worried about Prendergast on field at any level for a few years realistically. If he does play midfield, then that should be a worry on its own for Jack.
Said that Ben Warren has new fire in the belly
Hopefully he doesn't put it out with beer as has happened occasionally in past years.
Was a wrap for Mitch Sandery going to South (has spent the last two years playing mostly ressies at Nwd).
Good pickup by the club, possibly fell victim to the Hill regime at Norwood. No orphan there.
Apparently had full endorsement from the Magpies to go to South. Was lured there by Naley, Honor, Shane Butler and one other person who effectively head-hunted him.
Port were hardly in a position to do otherwise, to be fair. They didn't have any sort of hold over him. No offence intended Squawk.
Believes that Ben Kavanagh is a good CE who suffered last year from having too much on his plate with not enough support around him.
The word is that Ben chooses to take on far, far too much there when he has more than enough experience to delegate to. Needs to trust some of his staff's ability more.
Was a big wrap for the support staff, medical personnel and volunteers at Noarlunga.
See Rushby's comment above.
Is rotating training from Noarlunga to Montefiore Hill to Flinders Uni. (Obviously cutting out a lot of travel for not only himself but also the playing group).
That last line, in itself, says a little about their general recruiting direction.
He will also be spending a lot of time cultivating the relationship between South and the SFL - including going to B&F nights and doing guest speaking gigs.
Given that a lot of these ties have been damaged with the departure of Trevor Potts, couldn't come too soon. South has grossly underestimated how important he was to the club. To Norwood's immense benefit.
Believes that West and Norwood have recruited very well and that the Magpies will also improve.
Can't disagree with the first two, the last one is interesting. Exactly who will be their forwardline, for one? They are in real danger of slipping right back deep into the bottom 4.
Reckoned that Laird and Jarman were destined for the AFL - notwithstanding that Laird has denied interest in an AFL coaching gig!
Jarman will never hold an AFL role while some of his petulance continues at the club. If any Rooster fans wish to dispute it, remember that many of them have commented on some of his antics in the past. Bluntly, not mature enough yet for an AFL gig. Colour doesn't necessarily equal ability.
Also regaled a lot of stories from the past which were interesting in themselves.
Demonstrated a lot of confidence and leadership and no doubt some of that will have to rub off on the club as well as the playing group.
Said that South has a lot of good juniors, as does the SFL.
Overall it very much sounded as though he was there with the right attitude - indeed a very good attitude. Knows that culture change is required and wants to help there. Doesn't know the club song yet but wants to sing it 10 times in 2008!
Anyone else hear it? Thoughts?
