Tasmanian Football League

Just saw a player from North Hobart take a hanger on almost football legends. The game appeared to be staged at Belreve Oval.

I was wondering whether anyone who reads his forum knows anything about the competition? How has it gone since the advent of the AFL? How many fans go each week? To me there appeared as though at least 200-300 people were present.

From what I know that between 500 to 1000 people attend the H&A season and about 5000 to 10000 attend the GF.

mighty eagles is correct. we get approx 1000 to each game. depending on who is playing who.
the top teams here would be new norfolk, glenorchy, kingborough and clarence. bellerive is the home ground for clarence.
the crowd is undertandibly larger when one of these teams play each other.

The TFL as we know it collapsed at the end of 2000 and its clubs went to the NTFL (North) and SFL (South).

To say that the game is royally screwed in the south would be an understatement. Very poorly run, Hobart being called the Lions instead of their traditional Tigers, and the crowds and passion (except maybe New Norfolk, and the odd finals crowd) aren't there these days. The people running the game in the south are every bit as incompetent as the fools who've run Rugby League and the old Soccer Australia. Maybe even more.

The NTFL up north, on the othrer hand, is far more professionally run by people who care about the betterment of the game, and has better support.

David, interesting comment. I play in the SFL, and the game is quite healthy. Although the club i play for will struggle this year, as we had a mass exodus go to Hobart along with the incompetent coach, the crowds are quite good. The league is run quite well. the premier and regional league is doing well. the ntfl is a 2 hour plus drive from hobart, so to expect teams to do that drive almost every second week is a massive ask. there are 2 new teams in the sfl regional league, with one of them undefeated at the moment. i personally cant see much wrong with this league, and the standard is quite good as well. it would be better than reserves sanfl.
