5 years in a row at Alberton

Postby Wedgie » Sun Apr 20, 2008 8:14 pm

Talked to a few Port supporters today and they're amazed that despite not having the biggest supporter base we're the only club's supporter's that take over Alberton Oval when we play there.

Once again the red sea dominates, the last 1/4 effort was superb and speaking to players and coaching staff tonight, they could not believe the noise coming from that section of the ground as we put the foot down. Once again the Red sea has helped this club on it's way and isn't it great that the players once again head over to say thanks for the support

Yes, there must be at least 80 to 100 North supporters in some of those pics.

Just like there are about 80 to 100 Eagles supporters that rock up to home games.

This thread reminded me of a question I once asked Spelly on the History forum. So I dug up a couple of old threads and to my knowledge the 4 wins in a row North had at Alberton up to 2007 was the equal longest winning streak at Alberton by a visiting team. In short, North currently hold the longest winning streak at Alberton by a visiting club ever.
Edit: The clubs that previously held the record at Alberton were:
4 wins by Torrens (Rd 2 1922 - Rd 9 1925) and South (Rd 12 1936 - Rd 13 1939)

List of current winning streaks by the visiting team:
1-Richmond: Sturt 6 wins from Rd 23 2003
2-Richmond: North 5 wins from Rd 7 2004
3-Richmond: Port 4 wins from Rd 9 2005
4-Richmond: Norwood 4 wins from Rd 12 2005
5-Richmond: Central 3 wins from Rd 23 2004
6-Richmond: Glenelg 3 wins from Rd 1 2005
7-Richmond: South 2 wins from Rd 11 2006
1-Norwood: Eagles 6 wins from Rd 21 2003
2-Norwood: North 5 wins from Rd 3 2004
3-Norwood: Port 2 wins from Rd 5 2006
4-Norwood: Central 2 wins - Rd 6 2007
5-Norwood: Sturt 2 wins - Rd 13 2007
6-Norwood: Eagles 1 win - Rd 4 2008
1-Alberton: North 5 wins from Rd 19 2004*-(longest)
2-Alberton: Eagles 3 wins - Rd 8
3-Alberton: Sturt 2 wins - Rd 3 2007
4-Alberton: Central 1 win - Rd 17 2007
5-Alberton: South 1 win - Rd 2 2008
1-Glenelg: Central 2 wins - Rd 12 2006
1-Unley: Eagles 4 wins from Rd 12 2004
