Adelaide Oval LOUD speaker system

Postby CedeNullis » Sat Apr 26, 2008 7:43 pm

Went to the Anzac Day game: North Adelaide v Central District.
Stood in front of the scoreboard and could not believe how bloody LOUD the public address sytem was. The volume was so high you could hardly talk to the person next to you.
Are the SACA and SANFL aware how painfully high the speaker volume is at the northern end?

It has been that way for years. I do not understand the need to pump the punters' ears full of techno music at 120 dB during the half time breaks etc. Wise up, Adelaide Oval.

It is a joke. After they played the last post and national anthem they immediately crank a loud remix of "we will rock you". Killed the atmosphere.

Adelaide Oval needs a PA system that's spread across the ground, not have the ENTIRE PA system on top of the video screen.

Not a new issue, and something has to be done.

RPH had reporters at the 1/4 and 3/4 huddles, but the PA was so loud you couldn't here the reporter let alone the coaches, so in the end I think they just gave up

I agree with pretty much all of the posts on this subject to say the least the PA is very invasive, damned thing was still churning it out 20 seconds into the game,no first bounce crowd noise audible. Had a discussion with a mate regarding the need (?) for techno/house/hiphop/trance/dance/whatever. I suspect current marketing dogma equates loud music with "action" and is a cue for the punters to arouse from their stupor and fire up. Much the same as they do with the basketball and now 20/20 cricket,it's about the vibe and an attempt to "modernise the experience" and attract a younger crowd. IMHO the sooner this mindset is dropped the better. Let the game be the attraction,no-one is actually going to be swayed to go to a match on the basis of a few current hits or butchered "remixes" of classic songs or even a selection of J.S. Bach delivered by a Viennese String Quartet.
What is played over the PA generally has no relevance to football or is a hackneyed pump up song ala "Eye of the Tiger" that is way past it's use-by date.
Turn the PA off and use it only for ground announcements/lost child stuff. Rant over.
Incidently I don't remember any Andrews Sisters songs being played on Friday but my mate made the observation how good it would of been if the Cheer Leader girls had got together and jived to a medley of old hits. Would of fit the occasion better than whatever forgetable song it was they used.

I was there as well, it didn't need to be soooooooooooooo loud. Down the southern end it was alright, but just when you go to the northern end it just got louder.

That's because the entire PA system is on top of the video screen. As I mentioned before, they need a PA system that's spread right around the ground.

It was way tooooooo loud.
During the reserves game it was even more ridiculous due to the lack of crowd noise.
Not hearing the first siren to start the game was disappointing.

I must admit though I did like the music, particularly the Glenn Miller stuff.
