Wedgie wrote:I didn't realise until I had a quick glimpse at the SANFL site that last nights' game was of pretty special significance to the Norwood Footy Club:

Tonight the Norwood Football Club league team takes the field for the 2000th time.

Norwood is an extremely proud football club that has enjoyed outstanding success but is very wary of resting on the efforts of many past champion teams and great players who created the reputation of the club. All current players, administrators and staff are conscious of contributing to the history and allowing future generations to enjoy the same pride in the red and blue as we have today.

In the 128 years of Norwood's history there have been 32 coaches, 1346 players, 27 Premierships and only 18 Presidents. There have been four major sponsors (AGC, Vilis, Cooper's and Fairmont Homes) and ten patrons.

Norwood has been supported by South Australian Premiers, Federal politicians, Chief Justices, rock stars and NASA experts.

The club is famous across the land for junior development, promotion of skill based football and innovation.

Tonight the Redlegs play the SAFC at Cooper's Stadium. South have again recruited heavily and are a very talented unit. The game is critical as there is every chance South will be one of the prime competitors for a position in the final five at years end. The 2000 game celebration will only be memorable if the result is in Norwood's favour.

Next month Norwood will honour captain Brett James for his outstanding career. The game against the WWTFC on 23 June will be Brett's Testimonial match and the following night at the Norwood Town Hall we hope to have 400 people at his Testimonial Dinner. Brett is a champion footballer and one of only two of the triple club champions not to be in the Team of the Century. He is one of Norwood's best of all time and in addition is a fine AFL career with dual Premierships and state of origin selections.

Fantastic stuff Wedgie. Go the Redlegs =D>
