Finals Chances

Postby Ian » Sun Jul 09, 2006 5:35 pm

North:Nearly the real deal, still have to prove themselves against the Eagles & Centrals to be premiership favourites
Eagles:Current flag favouite
Port:Appear to lack depth, could go ok with a full squad (AFL listed included) but will probably drop a position
Centrals:Starting to look a bit shakey, but who in their right mind would write them off, could still pull off the big one with a bit of luck
South: Will probably make the 5, can't see them going any higher than 4th

Glenelg:Are still a chance of getting 5th, but I think South will have that
Norwood:See Glenelg
Sturt:Time to start preparing for 2007
West:See Sturt

Without sounding cocky I find this year similar to 1991.
In 1991 the first week of finals was West v Port and North v Eagles in a double header.
After the first game that year when West knocked off Port I was confident of a premiership as Port were the only team this year.

I have similar thoughts this year with Central as we're their bitches. If someone else can knock them out (which a good club shouldn't have to rely on) I'll be fairly confident.

Having said that after the schellacking the Eagles gave us last time we played them I'm not as concerned about them, I honestly don't know why and its probably got no logic but when have my thoughts ever had logic? Port don't worry me, I actually rate South better than them, if South can put 4 quarters together they'll be the best side in the comp IMHO.

with all of north injuries and the way they have been playing (when they turn it on) i see them as the flag favourites atm...the eags and dogs close behind...im not convinced that what the eags do during the year they can do in a GF as they have disappointed time and again...

imo, the flag will come from these 3 teams, with port and south rounding out the 5 (dont be surprised to see south fall away but a guy named cupido might just get them over the line)

Norwood are a very ordinary side and no chance of making the finals. I reckon Sturt should be disappointed they lost to them twice.

See where your coming from Wedgie but in 1991 North had previous big game experience. This year we will go in without even prelim experience. Not going further last year even tho 2nd was the best we would have done may cost us this year and i thought that the moment i walked out of football park last year holding back a tear.

I think the comp is wide open.

North to win it fairly comfortably. I'd say they will play the Eagles in the GF. Central third and Port fourth. As for 5th spot I think South might get there but if the Bays can win this week then it could go either way. Norwood won't make it.

you feel if north and centrals squared of in the grand final and you
won....i see no reason why north can't go all the way...i used to say
how great it would west beating port in a grand final but i'm still waiting.

I think Im scared of a premiership as I think my liver only just survives now!

In all honesty I agree with North being premiership favs even though trying to keep a lid on it BUT I sure as hell am not cocky and can see the finals being a lottery if Port get some AFL players back, South put 4 quarters together, Central hitting their usual finals form and the Eagles keep on improving.
Anything will be able to happen and probably will!
