Future of SANFL Finals at Footy Park?

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Postby Aerie » Mon Jul 10, 2006 9:29 pm

I like Adelaide Oval, but do think the GF should stay at Football Park unless we are getting less than 20,000 people to all the Grand Finals. The smaller the venue, the less people likely to come. At least at Football Park, anyone who wants to see our biggest game of the year can come along knowing they'll get a seat. This same principle is why I'd like to see all other finals remain at Adelaide Oval instead of going to suburban grounds.

Definatley leave the big one at Footy Park.

All other finals should be played at Adelaide Oval. Nothing worse than going to a final at Footy Park with 4000 people there.

100% agree with these sentiments and other posters with similar posts.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

How about we see how this goes for the WAFL.

I completely understand the merits of the higher placed team getting the home side advantage in the finals. Over the last few years, the qual, elim, S1 and S2 have not had massive crowds so why NOT give the higher team the right to have the game at home?

And of course make sure that the extra crowds are catered for properly. I think it would be sensational - and then the Prelim and GF at Adelaide Oval and leave the AAMI stadium monstrosity for the Power and Crows.

The SANFL is not as big as it used to be in the glory days, and won't be for a while. I think we just have to accept that....

Finals were played at Norwood in 1973 (?).

So finals footy in the suburbs is nothing new.

North who finished above Norwood had to play the 1st semi there. What a joke!

Im on my own somewhat here but I love footy park for all finals. Even empty there is something special about watch ing ur team there. There is a sense of ocasion and a sense of finals that Adelaide just doesnt bring to me. Its more like a picnic/carnival atmosphere.

Don't quite know how you can suggest that footy park offers a picnic carnival atmosphere. For most of adelaide you need to pack a picnic to get there and the closest you get to a carnival is the clowns who commentate on 5AA (which is why the purists avoid that station).

I think the place is sterile in terms of ambience. Pleurisy Park indeed.

No meant adelaide offers that. Its hard to expalin why i dont like adelaide but mabee picnic carnival was the wrong way to explain it. I just dont like it. Footy park is where i want em.

I really like adelaide for minor round though.

I can also see the reasoning and logic for all finals except gf being at adel

Mate, just dont like the place, not a lot to do with the SACA just everything else.
Too far from the action if standing at a bar, beer is warm and in small cups, warm is XXXX gold, atmosphere is crap, can't kick footys around (Im a family man), always re-ignite my knee injury going up and down the bloody stairs to the loos, loudspeakers are crap, food is goddamn awful, ground is a stupid shape for footy, that's just a few off the top of my head. Quite a few people I know have the same opinion.
IF you could drink a beer at Footy Pk I'd actually prefer Footy Pk!

I agree with everything Wedgie, perhaps the SANFL admin could make an exception for SANFL games, they keep promoting about how you can " have a beer" in the ads.

What do you think of it as a cricket venue then?

Don't mind it, but I'm not a huge cricket fan, be ok if the crowd was about 15,000 but the crowds they get to Internationals these days are ridiculous for Adelaide Oval.
Its even worse for soccer, rugby or league games which I've also seen there.

I guess we can agree to diagree but I take your point about the food and the beer.

I like my cricket and have SACA membership - only problem is my membership just takes me straight out the back of the members and I never get around to watching any of the cricket! I know quite a few other SACA members who have the same problem with their tickets as well.

:D :) :o :? :D
