Alternate away jumpers

Postby giffo » Wed Aug 02, 2006 9:35 pm

After reading some other threads regarding heritage rounds, etc; what are your thoughts on clubs adopting an old "heritage" jumper for away games with jumper clashes. Central to wear the 79 White jumper against South, Sturt, Eagles; North the white with red v against whoever; Glenelg the yellow one they wore last year against West, Port, Norwood, and so on. Its another item for the clubs to market, and as others have said before- Man U, Liverpool, etc all seem to manage and it hasn't affected their sense of tradition. (Are you reading this Eddie?)

The Bays should wear their yellow jumper that they wore last year, it looked sensational, better than their current guernsey.
Fair enough if its for marketing otherwise if it was for the issue of not clashing there would be no point in North changing.

Nup our best guernsey is black with a gold sash. Don't mind the '34 guernsey for occasional one off games.

Tell ya what Wedgie we'll change our guersney if you'll go back to the candy stripes.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I made a whole lot of alternate jumpers with Paint and posted them on BigFooty a while back.

Maybe I'll make some more. :D

North have an alternate strip ready to go for 2007 and it is only the SANFL holding it up. They have some stupid idea/ruling that they will allow an altenrate strip for heritage type games (or promotional games like the Eagles did last year or in 2004) as a one off per year. I can't (and neither can the North hierachy) work out their narrow minded thinking?

The alternate jumper is still red and white, still has the SANFL logo on it so what is the big deal? We will still wear our current jumper at home as the alternate strip will be used for all away games even though in theory we don't really clash with anyone but it will be a good marketing move too - some would say it is a better design than the current jumper and I must say I think it is great.

Hopefully commonsense will prevail and it will be approved soon.

Bite your tongue giffo... That white guernsey was a shocker! About the only thing Kerls did of any use in his time at the club was change it.

North don't clash so they don't need an alternate strip. All teams that clash should be made to have available an alternate strip. I don't think the Eagles (or any club for that matter) should have to wear their alternate strip for home games. What I don't want to see is teams just adjusting their guernsey (like the Crows away uniform) purely for marketing purposes.

Secondly, even though I'm not a huge fan of the yellow guernsey we have, it is so much better watching a game against a Central or Norwood with the yellow guernsey out there.

I believe Norwood were the first team to come up with an alternate guernsey (someone correct me if I'm wrong!). The original idea was just to wear it for away games, but sadly we are wearing it at home more and more due to the clashes with teams like South, Glenelg and West. I think all teams should have an alternate guernsey, which they should wear for their away games. Why should we not be wearing our traditional guernsey when we play at home? Yes, it has generated extra money for the club. A new guersney caught people's eye, and they had to have one. So it does prove to be a good income generator, but the most important thing is for teams not to clash on field. Wet, muddy games against teams like South make it almost impossible to tell the players apart.

I agree that all teams should have an alt. Jumper or an away jumper, for those games that they clash with the other team.

How does Navy blue and red (and white numbers) clash with Black and Gold?!?

And how does adding more red alleviate a clash with Black and Red?!?

Madness, I tells ya... :?

I agree drebin. I've had a sneak peak and think it works in really well with the socks. For those that haven't seen it yet:

Good call Pseudo ... Initially I was against the club introducing an alternate guernsey, but could see the need for better distinction when playing South or West (was bad enough for supporters at times, so can only imagine the difficulty faced by players), however IMHO the alternate strip we have doesn't fix the problem nearly as well as it could have if it were predominantly Red!
