There is a lot of so called Eagles supporters at my kids school, I spoke to a number of them at my sons footy in the morning, all said the same thing, Nah we won't be going, we'll watch it on TV. Disapointing to say the least.

Were you talking to them as your son lay bleeding and in obvious need of medical treatment?

Nah....after I "forced" him to play the game with a gaping wound to his leg

DAMNIT!

Well played Eagles. That was good to watch.
Skippy must have a handfull of Magarey votes you'd think. Dominates at this level.

Other Eagles people - have some humility please ...
Makes me embarassed sometimes.

To true Dissident its to early to get carried yet lets wait until we win a GF. But its hard not to get carried away by games like Saturday's after the crap that was dished up as a game by the AFL on Sunday!!
And i am afraid to say Wedgie got me in a pic in the Jarman stand

If I were an Eagles fan I would be reasonably confident based on the two hidings I have seen them hand us this year and all after a slow start due to a variety of reasons. The Eagles look and play like a much tougher unit circa 2006 and it will be one hell of a team that beats them this year in the GF but I can't see any of the supposed contenders beating the Eagles if the Eagles are on their game in the GF.

Centrals maybe and that is a big maybe because they are off the boil so far this year but if they get their best available full side on deck and the double chance they may have the mental edge and that does carry some weight so it will be up to the Eagles to overcome it.

As for the others Glenelg playing on confidence, good mix of youthful exuberance and no real hype or expectation to do what they have so far and who knows how far they can go & could suprise. Port nup, South - will blow their energy on just making the finals (if they do?) and celebrate so much they will miss their first final in a forfeit!

As for North - just making up the numbers and are................gone!

Big call Drebin. I wouldn't say your Roosters are gone just yet. The Eags should be premiership favourite as of the current time, thoroughly deserved. Anything can happen between now and finals though injuries etc. Geeez I hope it's the Eags year finally but if there's one thing i've learned from years gone by and that is let's take it one game at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves because just like years gone by whwn we've looked good it's eventually come back and bite us on the ass.
Good luck I hope we play you boys in the GF you deserve to be there.

It is disappointing, but I wonder if the SANFL fully understands this, or does it matter that much to them?

I wonder if it's a worthwhile investment for the SANFL clubs to pay a few caretakers to take the kids to their local game on a Saturday afternoon. If you can get 20+ kids together to have a good time at the footy, then maybe by the time they're 15 or 16 they'll want to and be able to attend the footy by themselves. The club could even provide flags and merchandise and turn them into a junior cheersquad.

Obviously most of these kids are watching on tv because their parents won't take them.

Parents just want to watch it on TV, full of promises about going for a few weeks, then as soon as they find out it's on the box... I told one, "at least I know you're a true Eagles supporter now", I don't know if they have shown enough interest in the last 10 years for the kids to really care.
(appologies to the Eagle supporters that do actually go to games most weeks)
The only regullar SANFL people in our school footy sides is my son, a couple of other North supporters a few times a year, a Doggies supporter (giffo) most weeks, and one boy who goes to most Sturt games by himself. There's a couple that go occasionally, and there would be 2 (claimed) Eagles supporters for every other supporter, but they just don't go to games.

If parents don't take the next generation of supporters now there will not be a next generation for the SANFL to survive!

This seems to be a sad fact of our times and its not just Eagles fans I am about the only one who goes to the SANFL on a regular basis at work and there are only 3 other eagles fans there.
And they do go to the footy but they all go to the AFL doesnt matter if they follow port glenelg etc most would not know a bays player from a doggies player .
Thats the sad fact of football AFL for some reason rules the roost

This is an issue. When i talk to people about the SANFL they seem to think i'm weird for following it. Most people would hardly know it exists.

I put the boot on the other foot and make them seem weird.
Quite often I'll walk in after a weekend and some people will say to me "Bad weekend for ya Wedgie?"
I'll say "WTF are you talking about, North played an awesome game, kicked arse and are in such a such position on the table"
They'll then say "No, I meant the Cats".
I'll say "Come on mate, I prefer really footy, not that crap, I actually missed the Cats game because I also went to the South v Eagles game (or something similar)"

People around me soon learn how much better the SANFL is the way I preach about it, luckily there's a Norwood supporter at work that helps (Manny).

It is funny when they ask have you seen such and such play for THEIR Club ,when they havent been to a SANFL game since the crows joined the afl .
But they are the same people who have a go when the EAGLES LOSE

Well said Micky - that applies to all clubs - it is amazing how many people you didn't know even knew about the SANFL until THEIR team beats yours because you are passionate and loud in your SANFL support (and decorate your office in posters etc.). When you ask them the last time they saw their SANFL team play most say "Before the Crows came in"

My workstation (in Melbourne) has a 1977 "SEEYASATDY" sticker and one of those early 80's towbar thing-a-mees - both with the glorious Peckers logo. To be modern, I sold the troops Eagles raffle tickets (but I didn't yell "in the Eagles raffle")

The good thing about being in Victoria is no one gives you a hard time when your team loses because no one knows the scores from the SANFL! :P

I should have mentioned the source of these valuable artefacts....

There have been times this season that the Herald Scum has given SANFL Reserves best payers and goalkickers. Of course, I only read it in the lunch room at work - I would never pay money for it.
