However i think that the job deserves a three year contract , because there is a lot of work to be done at Unley.

Sometimes coaches are only as good as their cattle and it might take two years for Rick to "breed" enough for Sturt to become competitive let alone have a crack at the big one.

Boards don't tend to look at the big picture.

there is always the option to extend the contract which i hope they do if improvement is shown.

Which seems to be the right move, given Rick is untried as a senior coach - no point getting him on board for 3 years if he is obviously crap after 2.

I don't think that last years perfomance somehow was coach related , the club should be looking at the quality and commitment of those running around the park (Chambers and Feast excluded) if they want improvement, which im sure Rick will do.

Thats why i would have thought that Sturt would show some faith in their decision and appoint for three years. If they are 4-16 at the end of 2009, then its time for the coach to move on.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

That's all very possible oww, but Sturt's current financial position doesn't afford them too many mistakes. 2 years is never going to be a mistake, 3 years may just cost them a packet of cash if it didn't work out.

true, we have weeded out one very talented but obviously lazy player who i am kinda sad to see go as i thought Rick or whoever was going to be coach could have straightened him out.

our finances are looking up and should be increasing rapidly in the next 2-3 years...hope rick can show improvement in the group and make a case for reappointment after the initial 2-3 year period. It would be stupid if the board didnt look beyond this time frame for substantial improvement and finals footy.
