Going to quote myself here with the unfortunate retirement of Dobber that would free some more money up in the cap IMHO!

I've said it before and I will reiterate. If we don't send a minimum of at least 1 quality midfielder this year our recruitment has again been a dismal failure and we are in for a difficult season

Righto... No one listened to you the first time. From what I know, the Club is pretty happy with its list of midfielders, so you may think it is a dismal failure but the people who actually matter at the moment are pretty comfortable.

I'm interested in seeing who we lose in the rookie draft and who we pick up in the mini draft .

Fixing the backline is also critical , so we will see if Godden can solve that with the names already mentioned . Your right ofcoarse , midfield improvement is key if we are to improve ; Godden would be a little foolish to think having Powell and Treeby back will make all the difference , it will certainly help , but its so obvious 2 midfielders at least is required as our younger lads ( apart from Polec ) havent set the world on fire really . They are either too light on , not fast enough , not good enough skill wise or too green yet ! Personally , Im not too worried yet , the fact is that we are looking for certain ( Boyd was a target dont forget ) and there is time for plenty of business . Godden , Davies and Slaven have already shown that they mean business , unlike their predecesors ! Im expecting Banner and Goldy to step up and hopefully Nathan and Allmond improve their skills with the coaches help .

One you have forgotten is James Stewart back at club now Ron has left.IMHO if he hadn't missed last year he would have been moved in to the centre.
At least he can kick the ball in from FB ;)

I think Angus Rowntree will come under strong consideration as an onballer, had a great second half of the season in the reserves...he really shows something. I also expect Mitch Banner to become a permanent first team player.

Dont bet on the fact we have spent all our salary cap Lachlan .Under the old regime(Ron and others ) we didn't spend money for 2 to 3 years.
Its been established on here we have replaced players for players, not that us fans really know money or anything(figures quoted on here by other teams fans would be way off the mark) .

IMHO and not being told anything by anyone .We should be looking at a quality midfielder .

As long as that midfielder comes without a transfer fee.

You can have all the salary cap room in the world, but if you can't pay transfer fees, it makes it hard too recruit.

The Eagles chose an inconsistent forward near the end of their career, over a young, hard at it midfielder. I think they chose wrong.

If we have chosen wrong, then it's our fault - no one elses. But if we win a flag or 2 in that time, then we would have come out in front.

Interesting reply Sleeping giant .Not certain why you think Eagles have no money for transfer fees, but that would be a different argument. And as I can not corroborate or deny, what you have written I wont get worked up over it .

But midfielder over ageing Forward .Just before Welsh signed all we had besides young small forwards were power list boys Salter/Schultz plus Grocke. And earlier in this pre season there was gossip that Grocke may play down back.Of course Grocke down back has been ruled out .But the eagles needed a forward with some experience. Who would not get called up to play AFL one week and then back to the SANFL the next.

So really Eagles have swapped Kenny Mac ( who the coach wanted up the forward line ) for Scott Welsh .
I think as posted above we have some youngsters coming through to play in the midfield along with Powell and Treeby .
But what happens after the rookie draft only the coach etc know that.
Plus dobber gone may add some money for transfer fees who knows :D

2010 The Eagles may well be totally different than in past years.A different vibe/attitude at training at thebie.
Plus a proactive team in charge of the club is the first step back up the ladder .
Cheers

Do you really think that with Dobba now gone , freeing up $ , our CEO hasnt planned to finish our recruiting off with what even Fuller said at the end of the last season , namely midfielders ? Davies will get it done Im confident . We have at least one coming to us from either Candys / PAPS ala Banner , so that lad could be league material at some stage during next season . However most of those lads drafted were quite tall ........ interesting !

I'm not saying anything holden ;) just responding to sleeping giant !
Personally I think recruiting is finished until after the Rookie Draft.
Plus the coach IMHO is still evaluating players who have been trying out since pre season training started .That's what I think anyway ;)

But what would I know I'm just a fan who can't wait until Feb 27 ;)
