Cheque Book

Postby dash61 » Sun Nov 19, 2006 2:53 pm

Lets hope the rooster cheque book will be enough to gain that norf's premiership that all supporters are chaffing at the bit for, if not and the cheque book fails, when is the blow torch going to be turned up on the men in the glass box?????

Jarman is a recruit magnet, but can he coach at the highest level??????

It was your argument that I thought pathetic, not you personally.

BPBRB, I've never doubted that Doug asked him to join Westies, but I also have no doubt it was a tongue-in-cheek approach. If he wanted to approach a North player, he'd hardly seriously do it in a room full of North supporters and players.

However, if that's the best you can do, we'll let it go through to the keeper.

Meanwhile, I'm still hoping other Clubs don't say anything scurrilous about Westies if a player is undecided about whether to play for them or us.

Nah, surely they wouldn't, I'm just being paranoid :)

Suspect you'll find that, if Jarman does not deliver a flag in 2007, even his well renowned charisma and "flair" will not save him down Prospect way. Some real rumblings looming about his attitude toward some players and families, and a very high level of media commitments that focus much more strongly on the AFL than his primary football role (the fascination about what Dew was going to do did not go down well with a number of areas). Somewhat of a feeling that North is merely a stepping stone for bigger things, rather than a primary focus.

lmao, you don't know how true that is r&b but BPRPBPRPB is still spot on. You're both spot on!
BRPPRPBPR is spot on with the story and r&b is spot on when he said Doug would have no idea who Brett White is.
I was actually at the players race when Doug went up to Brett White who was on the boundary telling him to let him into the changerooms as Brett White was expecting him to talk about possible recruitment. Myself and Brett just looked at each other and pissed ourselves laughing as Doug had no idea he was actually talking to Brett telling Brett he had an appointment with Brett.
One of the funniest (and saddest) things Ive ever seen.
Honestly, as much as I laughed in retrospect it was very sad to think of old Doug travelling interstate to try and sign up a club's vice captain making up lies and not even knowing what he looks like.
Definately wasn't tongue in cheek and he definately was trying to get into the change rooms, I was all of 2 metres away from the conversation.
To tell the truth I didn't even realise it was Doug at the time as he looked so crook in NT but caught up with him later (and get a photo) to confirm it definately was him.
Probably irrelevent now though as I'd imagine Doug wouldn't have much to do with the recruting now.

Spot on with your point about recruiting and spot on with your question. It definately hasn't been answered yet.
Probably not a relevent point/question in a topic about Westies recruits though.

Heard this story before from reliable sources, (Wedgie & BRPMNOPB) Also heard other stories Doug had told people he had signed (all fantacy stuff) or from a jumbled mind. Told me some stuff too over the years which I knew was crap. To be honest I think the last 5 years for the man are a blur, sadly. But more sadly for the WAFC who need recover to survive.

Not much more can/need be said about the subject, except ALL clubs remember it should never in our lifetime be repeated (at any club)

Perhaps a footnote. Proves it folly to blindly support "your club" regardless of how you really feel. I think you made a legitimate and valid similar point on the roost recently Wedgie.

On coaches.... on many the verdict will be delivered during 2007

Lot's of North people are thinking exactly that Dash. However injuries last year contributed a little to North's demise but again player management must be quetioned and the fact that Jars said he would never play unfit players in finals having been burnt in 2004/2005 but he did it again in 2006. Problem was the two injured players he should have played (Schubert and Howard) plus James McEntee as an in missed out but he played blokes like Gill, Hargs and Koops in the Prelim???

Yep big test for the super coach in 2007. Looks like we will have some good defenders as recuits but still need a good midfielder (Allan is no cert yet and may get rookie listed by the WBDogs) and we could lose Gill yet which means we will definately need another fwd (given Hargs is gone as well) unless they plan to play either Livingston or Morgan up front - that's if they both arrive at Prospect? Could be a mid table year for North in 2007?

MEDIA RELEASE
20 November 2006
The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Michael
Hooper for Season 2007.
Michael is 22 years old from the Northern Bullants in the VFL. In 2006 after playing only
10 games, he won the Reserves Best & Fairest. Michael is 191cm and is a mobile key
position player that can play through the midfield.
Scott Turner, General Manager Football Operations said Michael is an exciting player
who is very versatile and will bring a lot to the West Adelaide Football Club. He has
made the most of limited opportunities at his former club and we have no doubt that he
will develop into an integral member of our team. Michael is a person of great character
and has a strong determination to succeed. We are excited by the signing of Michael as
we see him as a perfect fit with recent signings and the core leadership group of the
Club.

MEDIA RELEASE 22 NOV 2006

The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Jesse Smith for Season 2007.
Jesse is a 20 year old, 183cm, 85kg midfielder originally from the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup where he won the 2004 medal for best on ground in the grand final where he collected 40 possessions. He has spent the last two years on Carlton s rookie list playing two games in 2006 after being elevated to the senior list. He played 34 senior games at the Northern Bullants in the VFL regularly amassing 30 plus possessions and developing a reputation as a hard working, in and under player with an outstanding football brain and team focus.

Jesse will be training with the team, along with fellow new recruit Jackson Barling on Monday night for the first time.

Scott Turner, General Manager Football Operations said Jesse is a young man of the highest quality who works very hard on his game and is desperate to make a real impact at the West Adelaide Football Club in 2007. He will set high standards for the rest of the team and is very excited about joining the club. We have no doubt that Jesse is a player that will have a big say in the success of the West Adelaide Football Club in 2007.

Jesse said I am looking forward to having a fresh start in Adelaide and to help West Adelaide climb up the ladder in 2007.

Been waiting for that to come out. Lets just say that "the release" of some signings from the past two years has freed us up considerably. Enough to recruit 2-3 more VFL types and someone special.

Dont forget 15 "names" have gone, most who (with the exception of Benny) should never have been!

These are the players named so far that have left Westies.. so there's room in the cap.
5 of them were recruited to the club last year. And as Coorong has stated there's probably
another 4 or 5 that will go.
BonadDio is the exception, he came via the Crows

Outs: Ben Haynes (Victoria), Mark Miller (Perth), Ryan O'Sullivan, Adrian Bonaddio (Port Melbourne), Ben Newberry, Ben Venning, Lance Oswald, Kyle Archibald

Fair enough, just seems like you must be pretty close to reaching it, seen as some are saying that there are still another 8 or more to be named...

Most of the players named wouldn't be on big money, coming out of the VFL. Jesse Smith is the highest profile player so far, but we lost Ben Haynes. Peter Walsh would be eligible for the 'veterans list', so with those who have left, there's room to move yet, I would guess.

I doubt if we're remotely near the current spending of Centrals, North and South, or of Port's 2006 level.

Jimmy, in regard to a player on supposed "big" money and the cap. My understanding of how it works is thus. Any player signed on say, $500 per senior game/ $50.00 per seconds game plays 15 seconds games and 3 senior games, then his portion of the cap for the year is $2,250.

You do the percentage.

He was not in the mix for North. You read that on bigfooty. James Allan (and he is no cert yet) was one of our "on ball targets" along with a player we are still chasing and have done so for the past 2 years with no luck.

James Allen was seriously chased by Westies, but I believe North told him nasty things about Westies, so he went to North :D
